A minimum of once a month? I could have sworn it's been longer than
that. I always found it odd that for a posting titled "Bi-Weekly
MiniFAQ", more than two weeks would go by between postings. You'd
think you could automate the process somehow, through software.

The other thing I've always wondered, is why the URL for the FAQ
couldn't be included in the email that the listserver sends out to
inform users that their subscription attempt was successful. That sort
of greeting message is quite common on other lists I've been on; does
this listserver engine just not support that sort of thing?

I know I felt like quite the ass when I made my first posting to
ShadowRN, because I had to ask where the FAQ was.

Greetings!!!

I remember thinking about putting the FAQ for the ShadowRN list on my web=
site, but one of the administrators seem to have a fit over it. Needle=
ss to say I never went through with it nor have I ever put a link to an=
y of the sites with the FAQ.

Mailing out the FAQ when a person first accesses a mail list should be do=
ne. In the long run it will answer a lot of questions and perhaps preve=
nt a few misunderstandings.

Just my .02¥

How many HUNDREDS of dead links, never updated web pages, and under
maintained FTP sites are there, that still point to old locations of the
FAQ, and other prominent Shadowrun web pages?

*That* is why we don't want people mirroring the FAQ.

I'll be setting the mini-FAQ to be automatically sent to new subscribers as
soon as I sort a few things out.

AFAICR that's what happened when I first subscribed to this list --
I got a "welcome to ShadowRN@*****.nic.surfnet.nl" message
and another one containing the FAQ. I always thought it was a
very good way of handling things, but I have no idea why it's not
done anymore nowadays...

At the very least, the welcome message should contain a pointer
to the FAQ on the WWW, I feel.

And verily, did M. Sean Martinez hastily scribble thusly...
|Mailing out the FAQ when a person first accesses a mail list should be do=
|ne. In the long run it will answer a lot of questions and perhaps preve=

That did actually happen when we were still on list-proc a couple of years
ago, but for some reason, the move to majordomo and then listserv-lite
stopped all that....

I actually got a mini-faq (I thought I did anyway) when I reapplied earlier
this summer when Mark shut down the list because of the "replicating bug" that
had developed in the server.
