It's not a style standard, it's a way of making the thread of
converstaion easy to follow. Trust me, I work at an institution where
"top quoting" is the norm, and it makes me crazy to have to scroll down to
the bottom of twenty messages and read backwards (up and down, up, up, up
and down) just to figure out what's going on. Take the extra two seconds
to scroll down to the end of the quoted material before you start typing.
How hard is it?

No, it is not. That is why we advocate judicious editing of
quoted material. Only quote the relevant stuff you are replying to. Cut
out random, extranous crap like everybody else's .sig blocks. All they do
is clutter up the archives with useless junk. Those unfortunates among us
who have to actually pay for online time or mailbox space actually do
appreciate it.

It should. It seems to make perfect sense to everyone else.

Look, it's nothing personal. Just use common sense when posting.
Maybe instead of getting all defensive and thinking that the "post police"
are ganging up on you, maybe you could think of it this way: we care
enough about what people have to say that we want them to express
themselves in a concise, coherent, easy-to-follow manner.
How hard is that?
