Ok. Unti.l there is more definitive answers out there, from either FASA or
Decipher, I would like to see this thread take a hiatus. All it is going to
do is start rumours that are untrue, and these could hurt FASA, Decipher
and the buyout.

Rest assured, that when OFFICIAL word comes out as to what is happening
both with the buyout, and also with our beloved (or not) games, it WILL be
posted.

If you do wish to discuss the buyout, take a look at the link to the page
that was provided earlier in the thread, as there is a forum for discussion
relating precisely to the buyout.

thanks.

With all due respect, Dvixen, (which is usually a precursor to offering
none at all, but that's not what I mean) - I think this request is unfair,
and unworthy of the list members.

The buyout of FASA is a huge thing in the history of SR, and asking us to
refrain from talking about it is unfair and unreasonable, IMO. (Especially
when the *&@*$# gun control thread is STILL going.)

Discussing the buyout is completely relevant to this list. While it's fair
enough to ask us not to rumour-monger, arbitrarily telling us not to engage
in rational discussion is NOT fair enough.

All IMO, of course. If the list admins/GridSec choose to uphold the
prohibition, well, I'll shut up. ;-)

Well, despite being a new member (maybe 3 months now...?) I'm going to put my
foot in it and agree with Lady J. here. But GridSec has a point that we should
avoid random speculation. What's really bugging me in this whole affair is FASA's
website seems to have no mention of it (as of last night, I haven't checked
today yet). Only Decipher does. And most of those Decipher fans don't even know
who or what FASA is... We should all make a strong showing on the board Decipher
set up if for no other reason than to ensure Decipher realizes FASA has a strong,
active, and large customer base.

But more than that I'd like to ask GridSec to hold back on everyone for a few
days until this 'mystery repost' thing clams down. I've noticed several emails
of 'banned' topics showing up again as well as other things and at present it's
real hard to tell what's current and what's old with about half the stuff hitting
my inbox.

I'd hate for someone to get unsubbed or something for a post they made back
before a topic was closed.

'Sides, I haven't gotten in my two cents :)

The company I work for has been bought and sold three times in the last 5
years. None of the sales affected our product, except to improve it. It's
only on the rare occasion that someone buys a company and then f***s it up.

And, it's *very* hard to change a company's momentum. As FASAMike said,
their product line plans run through the year 2001. Which means that they
have deals and tentative deals in place with writers already. That isn't
going to change. Decipher has been making good business decisions, and
that isn't going to change.

I.e., don't worry about it :)

*ROFL* You expect FASA's website to be current? That's funny...

As I understand it, most FASA personnel are of the overworked and underpaid
variety (who isn't, but they're worse than normal) and they do not have a
full time webmaster. So the site gets updated when someone happens to have
the spare time and inclination.

As to whether news of the intention to buy out would even be considered for
posting to the website, that's another question. My answer would be no.
Geocities, for example, a place where it's online presence is EVERYTHING,
didn't mention Yahoo!'s intention to buy until the deal had almost been
completed. Why worry people needlessly, eh? There's little or nothging
they can do about it anyway.

Of course, the announcement WAS posted Monday afternoon :-)
I think the Decipher site went up Friday (IIRC), so FASA's first oppurtunity
was Monday of course. Decent reaction time.
Note also, this is just a letter of intent, I am not even sure why it was
posted to the Decipher site so early in the negotiations. Mind you, a
"industry insider" lie the Pyramid (think thats right) site can post such
early stuff, but it seems a bit early for Decipher.
(Think of how long it took them to announce MS deal?)
