quoted text, or which didn't have quoted text at all in a reply to a
previous post. Thus, here are the basic guidelines for quoting that apply
to messages sent to the ShadowRN list. How you format posts to other
addresses is your business, but if you send a reply to the list, we as the
admin/GridSec team ask that you follow these points:
* When you reply to a message, quote the relevant parts of it. Indent this
quoted material with >-signs or similar, as this makes it clear which
material is yours, and what you quoted from the previous post. You can set
your mailer to do this automatically; if it for some reason cannot, I would
suggest getting a real mailer :)
* Delete the parts of the original message that you are not specifically
replying to. Including everything from the original message in a reply
wastes a lot of bandwidth and storage space all-around.
* Put your replies _below_ the material you quote. Putting the reply first
makes the message come across as a conversation in reverse, and only
slightly more understandable than that (and only because you can scroll
back up to see what the reply was).
It may seem like a bit of a hassle to ask you to do all the above, but it's
all just a very little extra effort that makes your posts much more easily
readable for everyone else on the list.
