The procedure for getting a licence in New Zealand for a gun is as follows.

1. Walk into a police station with $75 dollars(NZ) and a passport photo of
yourself (the photo must follow several guidelines on size, pose etc). Also
bring in two name and address of referees. One of these must be a guardian
and the other a friend that has known you for more than 3 years(i think it
is three) and also cannot be a member of your family.

2. The police then contact your referees and arrange a interview with them
on your suitablity and their agreement for you to hold a gun license.

3. Then the police arrange an interview with you about the reasons for
obtaining a license and the responsibilities. Then they will pick you up
and take you home where they inspect your security arrangements.

4. Then your must attend a mountain safety lecture and answer a series of
questions, of which you must answer so many correct, there are 5 questions
in the test that you must get right.

5. Then in about 4 weeks you can go in and pick up your license.

6. To buy a gun or ammo you must present your license to the shop owner
before the purchase is approved.

7. You must carry you license with you whenever you have a gun and
surrender it on request.

8. You must also resit the exam and security inspection every ten years
after you have obtained your license, unlesss you choose to surrender you
license.

Hope that helps

Quick warning, folks -- let's not get into a big flamewar about
whether any of the current gun laws make sense or not. They exist now,
and they'll be either better or worse in 61 years (depending on which end
of the gun you're on), and that's all there is to it.

You obviously weren't looking at in the right place to find fully auto's
in
Chicago. You went to real gunshops didn't you. Next time try using some
street ettiquete. :)

I wasn't even in Chicago. I was found it on the WWW and was sitting in
Copenhagen whilst doing it. It's really hard to use street etiquette over
when in the matrix :)
