Printing less of a product that is in high demand doesn't exactly help the
corporate pocketbook. They most likely just wanted to give the authors and
the people at Gencon a special bonus.

I wanted one, and I got one only beacuse I knew Steven Long (The champions
Author) and he was going to Gencon so I asked him to pick me up one.

If it wasn't for him, I probably would not have gotten one.

Now that I am the proud owner of #950 I feel I am finally
qualified to reply here.

I wanted a copy. I couldn't get anyone I knew who was going
to GenCon to pick me up one (It's a long way from Australia)

I didn't even try to get one off the FASA website as that sale
occurred whilst I had a hard disk crash (timing!!) but I did
manage to get a copy from the official FASA Australian
distributor. I phoned them up to check on when the softbacks
would be available and just on a whim said "Don't suppose
you'll be getting any hardbacks?"

Low and behold they were getting "2 or 3" so my gaming group
bought them up on the spot sight unseen. They arrived
yesterday and by god they are good.

As for the claim of corporate greed I think that 1000 is a reasonable
number to print of a collectors edition. If you really want one
bad enough you can find one. Any more than 1000 copies
would IMHO detract from the collector value of the hardbacks.

BTW Stefan your return address is overriding the list.

I went up to GenCon on a whim. I dont know about the Hardbacks until I
wander over to the FASA table and saw them. I pick one up right away and
bought even though I had a copy (softcover) on order from Amazon.com. So
luck helps.
