I'm going as harlequin to a fancy-dress party tommorrow night
and I can't remember how he painted his face...Does anyone
know of any sites which might have the covers of Harlequin or
Harl. Back scanned in (I don't own the modules) or can someone
describe the design to me...

Thanx in advance. :)

A white face with red diamonds (edged in black) overeach eye, and a sort
of exaggerated, smiling mouth painted over his real one, also in red with
black edges.

And if you really want to go as Harley, don't forget to put a scar on your
left ear as if it's been chopped off and sewn back on...

Isn't it made out of gold?

I know it's some precious metal from when he removes it in a certain scene
which I won't describe.

Yes, the pic of him from the cover (the one on my webpage) shows the
left ear is a gold one worn in place of the one lost to Ehran in the
duel ages ago.

I got the impression that Harley's ear was a prosthesis for effect,
perhaps signifying his feud with the Monsieur E. On the cover of
Harlequin, his left ear has a jewelled-looking border around it and
shines like it's metal, whereas the other ear doesn't.

In the final mini-adventure in Harlequin, "Present", where Harley and
Ehran meet for their duel, Harley rips off his ear with a flourish - not
the sort of thing one would want to do to a fleshly ear. Also, IIRC, the
book says it falls on the ground with a thud, or something, definitely
not a splat like a freshly-ripped-off fleshly ear would sound like...

I can't remember that bit... I always thought it was his original ear.

Wow! Me correcting Gurth...
Harlies left ear is missing.
He uses a solid gold one as a prosthetic ear....
(Judging by the picture... So paint your left ear gold)

In the original Harlequin, the prolouge goes over the duel in which
Harlequin's left ear is sliced off with a sword.

Huh? You're correcting a non mistake, as afar as I can tell.

And what if the pic you are using as reference is a self portrait? Did he
use a mirror, or a photograph?

Yes, I know _that_, else I wouldn't have commented on it in the first
place. However I was always under the impression that he had had his
original ear put back on, but thinking about it now (especially the
reminder that he pulls off his ear and throws it on the ground) I guess he
had some kind of replacement made.

It was gold. Ehran cut it off in the duel the two of them fought at teh
beginning of Harlequin. (Hundred of years ago.) Ehran didn't mean to do
it. Harlequin tore off his ear becuase it was part of the point behind
the current duel and the current game.

The funny bit is that my players kept the thing. They saw it hit the
ground, and after all was over (they were carrying half the party at this
point, and they hadn't even dealt with that dragon baby), one of them
specifically went and got the ear. It's in a glass case with the sword.

Someone has commented that it was made of gold, not that I can remeber
who, but on the cover of original Harlequin it distictly shows an
artificial ear, I had just assumed it was chromed... I wonder where this
gold thing comes from... infact his face paint and eyes appear metalic
on the same picture.

If you hadn't run it yet, a cool thing (if you haven't done it) would be
in the begining of Harlequin's back. As the horrors attack, and
Harlequin askes for his sword back, throw in him fussing over his ear
too!

Razor, who had the sword & ear in a case, handed H' the sword when he
asked for it. H' was so thrown that they didn't sell it for payment, that
he never asked about the ear.

I may have him ask about it later, something along the lines of, "Btw, you
didn't find a spare ear lying around, did you?" :)

That is one thing we may never know...

His left ear was cut off: "My master immediately withdrew, holding his
sword vertically before him. His foe, stunned, dropped his sword, and
brought his hand up to where his left ear had been."

This is from the last-but-fourth (?) paragraph on page 5 of Harlequin.
