Players, close your eyes again :)

In Harlequin (_not_ Harlequin's Back), the characters have to travel to
Germany by means of a suborbital. That means leaving the atmosphere, so
spell locks would become erased (or so I ruled -- that was the only way to
get rid of them except for nuking them :), and casting magic was O-U-T...
Anyway, during the flight a couple of terrorists mistake the PCs for
something they aren't, and attack them, causing a melee in zero gravity...

Hmmm, interesting point. I'd have to say that any _active_ foci would be
destroyed when you went out of the atmosphere (they form a continuous link
to the astral after all). As for Quickenings...that could be ugly (though
probably they'd just cease to run anymore).

I can't remember my thought processes of the time (it was late '93 when we
played Harlequin) but I think I read somewhere even inactive foci/locks get
erased if you take them out of gaiasphere or however you want to call it.
Maybe it's in the NAGRL *runs off to get that* Well, a comment says "don't
carry any active foci" bla bla bla. I guess you were right :)
But it did allow me to force the player to leave behind the locks without
him killing me :)

Harlequin is an immortal elf, who's been around since the time of ED
(he's 7000+ years old), and AFAIK he first appears in the Harlequin
adventure, which is now out of print I believe. He knows a lot more about
what's going to happen than he's telling anyone, an yes, he posts under
the name of "The Laughing Man" or "H" in various sourcebooks.
Harlequin's
Back is another large adventure in which he plays an important role.
