Okay, new topic:

Anyone know how much cash an armored car carries on an _average_ day? (ie
not necessarily payday or check day, whatever)

One of my players has decided, for good or ill *egmg* that he wants to start
robbing armored cars. He's already got the contacts to launder part of the
money and co-owns a nightclub so he can launder the rest. I'm trying to
figure out how much money he could reasonably expect from a typical armored
car.

(And yes, in my game, cash nuyen is still just as prevalent as cash today,
credsticks are generally used like debit cards or for larger purchases.)

Depends =)

I don't think he'll necessarily have to "launder" it. As long as he sticks
with money transports from shops to the bank, the money is neither marked
nor are the numbers listed. Because of this, it maybe very well be smarter
to only robb those transports rather than go for the hefty, well-protected
transports between banks or from national banks to private banks.

As far as I followed reports on this kind of robbery, 20k and upwards. If
he really has to launder it, he can expect to get about 10% of the original
value as "clean" money out of the laundering machine. He may get more, but
then he should know those people pretty good.

Hmmm. I think this is more difficult than it may
appear on the surface. If your reference to "Heat" is
to the movie (one of my fav's), your thief will have
to think about a lot more than Neil's crew had to.
Looking at New Seattle and Rigger2, the response times
for Lone Star are significantly faster than the
movie's cops, especially in neighbourhoods rated A or
better. Surveillance drones and GridGuide make
tracking your get away fairly easy until you reach a C
rated neighbourhood at least, to say nothing of
wandering astral patrols.

A good decker can exploit the surveillance and
GriGuide to hamper pursuit and provide overwatch.
OTOH, a good decker would find it easier to rob an
online account for equal or greater nuyen - less work,
less time, same pay. Why are you robbing banks
physically?

My group has robbed banks from time to time. Not
trucks, but actual banks - the samll peripheral
branches. It was a combination of physical B&E, Matrix
overwatch and magical/astral interference. The run was
modeled after the Sprawl Sites description of SR bank
branches and how financial info gets handled.

I can see a physical interception for SOTA materiel,
but not for cash. It seems a lot of work and risk for
a limited return. Cash takes up space, far more space
than an equal amount of money as data. I'd like to
hear about your campaign though, usually it's little
campaign quirks that make runs like this profitable.
Or maybe you guys just like the role-playing
implications - tha's cool too.

I can't tell you from the "Securicor" point of view or what it will be in
the States but in the UK from business knowledge it is rare for a "small"
business to be insured for more than about £5,000 on the premesies over
night, or about £10,000 full stop. most of the real small businesses use
night safes or bank regularly but some of the larger ones get an armoured
car collection when they need it, even if they only load say £8,000. If you
say that the armoured car will make 4 stops before returning to the depot (2
to deliver cash to financial institutions two to pick money up from
businesses) (because you have a guy in the back who cannot legally be locked
in for very long, 3 hours IIRC) that puts around £15-20,000 in the car as it
returns to the depot (and probably the same as it heads out)(how accurately
your player can predict these runs I don't know but they aren't a daily or
even an "any given ?day" occurence.
The big thing to remember rather than simply laundering the money on board
is actually getting to it; dye packs, tracking devices and secure "safe
boxes" are just some of the things the guy is going to have to get around
before he even gets to touch the money; also it being the even more
plutocratic 2060's you can likely add toxic gas bombs, DMSO and poison
treated notes and even c12 packed "safe box" walls. Money is so much more
important in S'run that stealing like that is going to be seriously tough.
