Damion Milliken <u9467882@***.edu.au> posted a couple letters earlier. I am
going to try and clear up publicly some misconceptions that he had, in case
anyone else has those same misconceptions.

1) Concerning helmets: It has been pointed out that FASA's rules on helmets
is that they add to a persons overall armor rating, and that the rules do
not give stats for how they would resist a bullet if they were targeted
directly. Damion went on to ask what should be done if a player calls a shot
to the head of a target. I am sorry to say that nothing would happen:
according to the rules as written, you _can't_ call a shot directly to an
opponent's head. The best you can do is aim for a "weak spot", which gives a
+4 penalty to TN's, but increases the base damage code of the weapon used by
one level (L to M, M to S, etc). The target still gets to use the full value
of all the armor they are wearing when attempting to resist the damage.
Does it make sense? Of course not. But it is simple. Otherwise, they would
have to come up with charts showing how wounds to different body parts affect
a person differently.

Personally, I ususally determine where a person was hit by how much damage
they took. For example, if a person wearing an armored vest is hit for Light
or no damage, I would describe it as if the shot had hit the vest and had not
penatrated. If the same person were hit, and took a deadly wound, I would
probably describe it as "wow. you hit him in the head, there's brains
everywhere". It becomes more of a roleplaying situation then a rules question.

2) In another post, Damion asked about a suggestion by another list member
<sorry, I deleted the mesage, so I don't know the original poster> that AP
rounds use -1 ballistic armor, -1 power on body roll. Damion did some
calculations showing that if you reduce the power and armor level the same
amount, you haven't gained anything. What he failed to realize was that the
-1 power was only suposed to apply to Body dice. Combat pool dice would be
unnafected. I am not saying that this makes the suggested rules any better,
I just want to make sure everyone is discussing the same suggestion.

Whew. Long post. I am sorry to those of you who don't like long-windedness.
Also, I wish to restate that I was not attempting to pick on Damion, I just
felt that this letter could clear up some confusion that others may be feeling
as well.
