this topic is going sideways and should not require spoiler space.
The Subject also says Brainscan, so if you are a player and
a) Know your GM owns or plans to own it or
b) you are currently going through it
this may ruin day. Even more so if your GM thinks like me.

Obviously, if you want to keep players you can only be so evil.
I would say kind rather than soft. You can do the old D&D/007 classic where
they are captured but all their stuff is in the next room, etc. which is why
I mentioned the bloody bag. Once they get out it should be easy to
reinstall. The efficient way to remove it would involve not damaging it.

Personally I think it would be more fun (for a group) to use the ghoul
option (you see the little blind girl skip in the hallway. Roll Perception.
Those that get a 4 see she has new eye. Those that get a 6 notice they look
just like "yours" :) ) Once again, a kind GM could implant the cyberware in
bad guys so the players enjoy ripping it back out of them.

The one thing that bothers me is the Bad Guys helping the good guys when it
is NOT in their interest. Then (especially if you have whiny players) the
others feel bad that THEY didn't get captured and upgraded. You can easily
make another run where the Employer GIVES them cyberware, which makes more
sense. In my campaign they have to do a datasteal and the Johnson told them
One character had to get the Courier-package. The players voted on who, and
of course it went to the decker, who is who I wanted to have it. If they had
given it to the razor (second best option) I'm sure that, over time it would
have been transplanted to the decker (though it would definitely had made
the current run more colorful). Of course, when anyone Gives a player
something in SR, it makes them happily paranoid, especially since it had to
be done at a clinic they didn't know so it Possible there are other items in
there.
