Shamans certainly aren't more powerful than Hermetics. According to
the Black Book pg 139, last sentence in the third paragraph under
Summoning Nature Spirits, "A shaman can summon only one nature spirit
or have one in service to him at one time."
A Hermetic on the other hand can have up to his Charisma in Elementals.
