Well, after many a nights wading through messages, and having to
ignore far too many of them, could everyone try and make their
posts the average (my dinosaur can only have about 70 characters
on the screen before losing the rest of whatever was said.

Very irritating at the least. At the most...

Oblig SR stuff:

What is the strangest spell lock anyone has ever created?

The GM of our game must have lost his last marble when he
decided to have one of his npc's do something.

Now, first of all, I run a druid. No probs there. She is
emotionally fragged. (Yes, she is an initiate, and Yes, she is
spending increasing amounts of time on the metaplanes, because
she is becoming increasingly unable to deal with the 'real
world'. the decker of our group is much, Much more socially
acceptable.)

But through life and a twisted gm's meddling, she has a cat.
He adopted her shortly after meeting her, after his previous
owner/pet died.

A cat that can see astral, and summon watchers and spirits.

Hey, no prob! His world. Normal worries.

Time went on, the cat learned a spell. Great, that is all
the world needs, a cat with a spell that lets it talk to
the ones that have the right lights. (magic-types)

Okay. Now we worry more.

He wants to learn the ones with the angry lights.

Panic. And now?

A CAT has spent karma to bond to my character to it.
She is a spell/lock/foci/whatever for a fragging CAT!

AAAAARRRGHHH!
And they wonder WHY Celt spends so much time on the
metaplanes? Gee. I have no ideas....

Well, changing tradition and screen-length isn't easy :)

He probably hates your guts - be thankful, when I gets pissed at my
gamers, I start a war and send them to it :)

Like a free spirit type?

Wow, free spirits can talk to whoever they want, so not a free spirit -
something nastier/wierder then :P

I kinda like your GM, he has a flair for horrors, it seems. That cat
definitely sound like my idea of a horror, and insidious one. I'm
non-knowledgeable on horrors (apart from reading ED) in SR context, since
I've long decided not to introduce them in the first 200 RL years or just
before I decisively quit as GM.

Must be a horror thing. Apart from possession and like fleshforms, I know
of no spirit powers that allows any kind of connecting to an active Magi.
And that would not inconsistent with your situation.
And besides, those suckers can all speak. None needs to learn spells, so..

Good luck. Wow, a horror as familiar/master...... Murphy is maturing, no
doubt :)

*shrug* Sounds like a free spirit or ally spirit... go for it. :)

If your character is curious then play along with it, but be
cautious. Otherwise I say kill the cat. Kill it now.

I play with a guy that does this sort of thing when he GMs AD&D.
Every time a wizard summons a familiar he end up with something a
little off center. One time my character summoned a familiar and
rolled an owl. It looked like an owl, but it was also something else
(I never did figure out what). The GM did this as a quirk for his
game, not as anything serious (unless the summoner was a munchkin) so
it never really bothered any of us.

Your case seems different however. The cat has bonded your character
to it, not the other way around. Like someone else said this sounds
like a horror or something similar.

There is another option however. The cat could be Cat, and has chosen
your character to be one of "her" shamans. That theory is kind of
thin though.

And the final option could be that your GM is weird (like the guy I
play with). If its fun then go along with it. If not, talk to him and
ask him to sick the cat on someone else's character.

tempted. but i would a valuable source of info.
(sean was most disconcerted when i decided to use the cat as a spy.)

can a Druid (or any other shaman-type) be chosen by a new totoem?
i never thught so, because isn't the whole totem experience and
acceptance on both sides, not just the totem chose?

when i rremember, i sic the cat on the others to 'spy' for me. never
learn anything, but it does get the cat away from me for a while.
why on earth would a Druid of Sea want a cat?

You mean, the bond is mutual? From your previous description, I got
the impression that you were bonded by the cat, not the other way
around - which makes the you-order-cat situation as likely as an
situation where my ally spirit began giving me orders...

The totem never chooses wrongly. I kinda like this dogma, though
burn out shamans might theoretically choose a new totem, cause the old
was not real. But then a burned out shaman have probably lost faith in
the whole shamanic business and not only his/her totem.

Your GM's inventive, but seems a little out of synth....

Well, by the rules no. But there's this thing called GM's
perogative. As long as something doesn't screw up the game and the
players agree to go along with it, it's ok.

|why on earth would a Druid of Sea want a cat?

Sounds like you're headed towards a cat-astrophe (bwahahahaha).

Seriously though, I just remembered that there are some paranormal
cats and cat-like critters in the paranormal animals book. Maybe your
GM is using one of them, or something similar.

One of the wonderful things about SRII is that there are enough
mysteries that us GMs have a lot of room to play around in.
