GI Joe Team History
by Bull

>>>>>[A couple friends of mine (I won't say who) asked me to see what I
could find out about a team of apparent shadowrunners working out of the
Seattle area. Since I'm not really familiar with the area, I had to do a
lot of digging and rely on what a few people that I don't know that well
told me, but here is what I've pieced together. Captain Chaos has given me
the go ahead to post this, and as always, you folks are welcome to post any
tidbits that you've heard or anything I might have missed. Enjoy.]<<<<<

About five years ago, during a hit and run job on the Seattle Renraku
Arcology taht turned into a pitched battle is when the so calle "GI Joe"
team is first reported being seen. They apparently had made a run into the
arcologgy, and made a mistake on the way out. They mixed it up with Raku
security as well as a merc team that started up around the same time the Joe
team did, an outfit calling itself Cobra. Both sides used a lot of heavy
weaponry, and there were quite a few casualties, unfortunately most of these
were civilians. Also, the property damage out side the arcology was
reported to be close to 2 million Nuyen, and most of the damage was done
inside the arcology.

The team was apparently founded sometime during late 2051, by a very rich
unknown benefactor. His identity remains a secret, apparently known to a
very few in the orginization. The only reference to him anywherde in their
computer banks or on the streets is the name White King. No other reference
is made to him.

>>>>>[And of course we all know who the white king is. Mr. Racial purity
himself,
Brackhaven!]<<<<<
*Trog

>>>>>[Don't be ridiculous, Trog. Close to a quarter of the team is
metahuman, including a couple of trolls.]<<<<<
*Who Me?

>>>>>[Yup, that's right. Besides, rumor points the Joe team toward Ares.
I'd suspect someone in there.]<<<<<

He apparently began founding this team in hopes of having a well organized
shadowrunning team comprised of a large number of highly specialized
operatives. The
reasoning being that he can assemble the perfect team for any type of
mission, whether it require Magic, stealth, computers, or straightforward
power and firepower. He also apparently has operatives that specialize in
other types of terrain, as well, such as Snow or Desert...

I can trace the name of the team, and curiously enough, the name of the
merc unit that they fought a few years ago at the Renraku battle, to a toy
line, comic book series, and cartoon that were popular iduring teh 1980's.
Why the White King has dug yup a name that is over 70 years old is beyond
me, but he not only holds true to the team name, but the code names of the
operative. Almost every known member has a fictional counterpart.

>>>>>[I hear thatt iut has something to do with his childhood. I heard the
White King's almost 90 years old. Maybe he played with the toys as a=
kid?]<<<<<

The Joe team is led by a gentleman know as General Flagg. He is an older
man, and appears to have served time with an actual military power, although
any records of such a thing seems to have been erased. The few scant trails
point to the UCAS government. Some of there core members, trhe ones that
have been seen the most frequently include Duke, Road Block, Gung Ho, Grunt,
Stalker, Rock and Roll. Scarlett, and Lady Jaye,. These seem to be more
along you're typical Street Sam types. There is an Indian Shaman named
Spirit, a couple of Phys Ads named Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow. Breaker and
Mainframe, a couple of top notch deckers (trust me on that). Those are a
few of the more visible ones. I'll give a more detailed account of them
later...

>>>>>[Since he's not gonna go into them till later, I'll spare my meager
dteails till then, but these guys are the epitomy of highly trained
soldiers. They're the best, and putting them in the street has only made
them better. Especially their two Ninjas, Snake Eyes and Stormshadow. Not a
pair that I'd like to tango with.]<<<<<

Cobra, on the other hand, is slightly easier to trace, and seem to have a
similar origin as the GI Joe team, almost as if one were created in response
to the other. However, where teh Joe team uses highly specialized troops,
the Cobra Mercenaries utilize a few individual operatives and commanders,
and then masses of rank and file troops. They also appear to be well funded
and well armed, but as I said, they were easier to trace.

>>>>>[Well funded is an understatement. I saw these boys in action not
long
ago, fortunately from a distance. These guys have their own fragin' army!
It's at least the size of most of the corps private armies, and possibly
rivals teh CAS army!]<<<<<

Cobra is headed up by a man known as Cobra Commander. His identity is not
known, as he always wears a mask of some type. Also in the upper ranks are
Dr. Mindbender, a mage, Zartan, a physad, ande Destro, who is the CO of MARS
weapons manufacturer, a small weapons design company that does military
grade weaponry. MARS seems to be in compitition with Ares in the weapons
marketing. Plus they have several thousand Cobra Soldiers and their more
elite troops, the Crimson Guard.

>>>>>[I heard a couple of rumors linking Cobra Commande to Aztechnology.
:Let me check on that and I'll get back to ya.]<<<<<

Vinnie.]<<<<<

That's a brief and basic background on the two organizatons. I also had a
small interview with Clutch, a rigger for Joe team. He assured me that he
cleared it through his boss, and he seemed like a real nice guy. I've
included a transcript of our conversation. Please keep any comments till
after the interview.

Clutch's Interview

<Clutch is a fairly normal looking human, about 28 years old, with a riging
jack in his head. He was wearing dark grren fatigues when I met with him,
and the jeep he arrived in was quite interesting. It was an open style
jeep, a somewhat older model. It had a definate military look to it, and
the Rocket Launc\her Rack in the back added greeatly to that image. We
shook hands and talked shop for a little bit. I do my share of rigging as
well as decking, so we talkked about that for a bit, then turned the
conversation toward the team. I use B for me and C for him.>

B: So what is it that you and your team mates do, Clutch?

C: Same thing you do, Bull. Only we try to be the ultimate professionals.
Not saying that you're not, of course. Just that sometimes your avaerage
runner gets sloppy. We try to avoid those types of things. We strive to be
the best. Also, one of the things we're taught and trained from the moment
we join the team is morality. We want to erase some of the negative images
that Shadowrunners have. We avoid sensless killing, attempt to uphold the
governmental laws, that sort of thing.

B: But don't yoiu usually break a few in the process?

C: Yeah, we do, but it's usually necessary. And remember, the corps aren't
considered part of American, err, sorry... UCAS soil, so we aren't breaking
any UCAS laws...

B: What about that firefight a few years back? Seems to me quite a few
people were hurt and killed during your little war with Renraku and this
Cobra group.

C: Well, I wasn't in on that mission, but I do know that it was a mistake.
Someone got careless, and things got out of control quick. Besides, we did
our best to keep the civilian casualties down. It was those lousy snakes
that did most of the killing.

B: Snakes?

C: Yeah, Cobra. We call 'em snakes.

B: ok, tell me about Cobra. I know where both you got the names, but who
was first, and why did you choose the name?

C: Well, Cobra was started up first, about a year or so before the Joe team
was formed. They were based, and I believe still are, somewhere out in the
pacific. We were, to some extent, a response to them. More often than not,
we get hired by certain people who are opposed to what they're doing, and we
are usually trying to stop them or trying to defend ourselves from them. the
fight got personal pretty quick.

B: By "certain people" do you mean corps? Is it always the same people who
hire you?

C: <appears a bit nervous, and at some point appears to be talking over a
cranial telephone> Well, I guess you could say that. We've done good work
for a couple of companies, and so they keep hiring us. Seems like the ones
our employers ware in competition with keep hiring the snakes. Although the
team does hire out to almost anyone.

<At this point his belt cellular phone rings, and he excuses himself,m
saying he has to leave. Later that night, on the news, there was a large
battle near the Seattle Ares building involving two unidentified small
terrorist groups...>

>>>>>[Now, this guy has got to be UCAS military. There's no other way he
could get away with driving a heavily armed jeep throuigh Seattle.]<<<<<
*Anim

>>>>>[Agrred, Anim, but there's no indication anywhere that they do work
for
them. They seem to be on the level.]<<<<<
*Hudson

>>>>>[What is this drek about were the good guys and they're the bad and we
try to preserve life? I thought I was gonna hurl. Ya ask me, they've done
as much damage as any other merc team around, probably more. After all, how
many local Shadowrun TEams have their own strike jets?]<<<<<
*Hardcore

>>>>>[Sorry to your bubble, Hardcore, but we're really on the level. Not
everyone is a cold blooded killer like yourself. Be careful where you step,
in the future.]<<<<<
