[Why is History a conc. of Sociology?]

I've never studied history, but Martin's comment was something close to "My
former history teacher should see that!" which leads me to think that the
people "in the business" don't see themselves as sociologists at all. But
maybe that sort of thing is the case with every (semi-)specialized group
anyway :)
Mind you I have a hard time picturing what a sociologist actually is or does...

Will it ever be the same again?

A historian studies what happened, with occasional interest in the why,
although historians tend to come up with some pretty grand theories on
their own. Sociologists study what's happening, with the primary interest
being the why rather than the what. A historical sociologist studies what
happened with the primary interest being the why. The tense and the what/
why dichotomy are the primary differences, IMNSVHO.

i think most sociologists have trouble with that. :)

I could tell by his slurred speech, the heavy glaze over his eyes,

Historians look at what happened, and try to fit what happening now in to
pat patterns. Sociologists look at whats happening now and change the
past to make it fit. At least that's how they operate in the seattle
public schools.
