What's the difference between HMHVV and HMHVV-2?

I know that the different virus's create different creatures from the beings
that they infect but I can't work out what the differences from the virus's
are.

I still like the idea of a Vampire Shapeshifter.

Sasquatch can be infected by HMHVV to become Baddersnatch and they were only
recognised as being a sentient species in 2042. As most places do not
recognise Shapeshifters as anything more then animals, you could argue the
same for them. But I am getting off my point.

The way nature works is to cause mutations to see what works best.

I can see HMHVV mutating to infect other, non-human species.

I have seen more then enough films and read more then enough books where a
vampire has infected a poor dog or some other creature. I can't see why
this would not happen to HMHVV.

But I may be wrong.

Again Ideas Please.

I think if you are running the game, and this Vampire Shapeshifter adds to
the excitement of the game, then do it. In the rules of Shadowrun this
would not be possible. But if we all followed the rules so strictly then
the game would be dull. Every once in a while you have to bend the rules to
favor the story and the excitement of the game. Anyone on this list can
tell you that it can't be done, but in the end it's solely up to you.

Back to the original question. I have no idea what the difference is.

I would think that HMHVV is the first identified variation on the "Virus",
and HMHVV-2 is the second, primary strain, that was located actually.
Medicine has a way of doing things this way on occasion.

As to which one is more adaptive than the other? I actually think the root
virus is incredibly adaptive, and that perhaps we haven't seen that yet in
the SR Universe just yet (shrug). All of the offshoot variations have
adaptability, but only to an extent. The mutations of the virus that have
sprung up with regards to dealing with the various breeds of metahumanity are
more racially triggered, than the source of the virus itself.

Here's a thought...Vampiric Critters; aka non-humanoids. Anyone else come up
with something this nasty?

You're actually dealing with a subject I know something about (playing a
ghoul, I'm infected with HMHVV-4, and I'm doing a little bit of research).

> What's the difference between HMHVV and HMHVV-2?

HMHVV-I affects all the meta-human types. Humans become vampires, elves
become banshee, orks become wendigos, trolls become dzoo-noo-qua, and
dwarves become goblins. Sasquatch are also affected by HMHVV, ecoming
bandersnatches (though some shadowtalk in Steve Kenson's non-canon "Bad
Blood" suggest that it might be HMHVV-II, since bandersnatches don't drain
Essence).

HMHVV-II is only known to affect trolls, transforming them to fomorians.
Might be what causes bandersnatch transformations, too. Also referred to as
Jarka-Criscione strain. Since fomorians don't drain life force (Essence),
it's believed that Jarka-Criscione might be a different, but related,
disease.

HMHVV-III is lethal to all meta-types but humans, whom it transforms into
nosferatu. Also called Bruckner-Langer strain.

HMHVV-IV causes ghouls across all five meta-types. Since ghouls also don't
drain Essence, this to might actually be a separate disease that is closely
related to HMHVV. Also called Kreiger syndrome or Kreiger strain.

More than you needed to know? <g>
