Example: In the example before suppose the mage was in astral space himself
(-2), and had spent one complex action the round before assensing the Samurai
(-3) -- the normal +6 penalty is reduced to -1, which could be reduced further
by the mage spending more time assensing.

I'd just like to point out that the mage could not cast the spell on the
samurai if he was in astral space....
