Jason makes an intereting analogy, software companies DO produce different
versions of programs depending on their targeted platforms (MS
Word.4.Windows, MS Word.4.Mac, MS Word.4.TRS-80). Perhaps that is where
I've been overlooking something.

Nowhere in SR do I remember there being anything said that program were
anything more than generic [Meaning SCREAMING POODLE will run on Fairlight
as well as on Fuchi . . . the same package]. Thus, in that sense, STRIP
was justified. This would sort of be like buying MS Word.4.Computers,
installing it, and then removing the stuff not specific to your machine.

_If_ SR had packages sold on a platform basis, then STRIP would yield a
relatively small change in size (except perhaps on home-grown MCPs). On
the other hand, I still think STRIP would aid those who write their own
programs because they will be using generic public libraries and with good
skill can write smaller programs than their money-grubbing corp compatriots.

How about this:

STRIP on Store-bought programs running on Store-bought MCP: No Change
STRIP on Store-bought programs running on Unique MCP: Rating x 2.5%
STRIP on Unique Program running on Store-Bought MCP: Rating x 2.5%
STRIP on Unique Program running on Unique MCP: Rating x 5%

This means that the more of your deck/software you write, the better your
savings in reducing redundant code.
