This sounds cool. It could also be that the "good" blood spirit will only
hang around to do its specific job and then bugger off to where-ever. Since
it was borne out of self sacrifice and would feel the desperation and pain
of the act, it would probably hate killing and mourn every life it took
(Except for "bad" blood spirits) maybe its form being covered by more wounds
the more it kills, and its eyes raining tears all the way asking each victim
"forgive me" before taking its head off. I think it would be cool if the
main difference between the "Good" and "bad" spirits was the presence
of a
feeling of blame and responsibility for its own deeds.

Exactly! Some classy touches there by the way. You summon the thing and with
your dying breath give it one instruction (eg "Save my friends") which it
interprets intelligently without trying to twist your meaning, saves your
mates from the horrible fate you sought to prevent and goes away again.

Another possibility (which I've only just thought about but really rather
like) what about guardian angels? do the summon thing and give the
instruction "Protect my daughter." or something similar and your daughter
has a guardian angel! Obviously it is a lot less likely to manifest and kill
people and it might take killing the blood spirit which someone has sent
after your daughter as the completion of its bargain but hey its more than
most kids have!
