Since the cycle of magic lasts for ~7000 years, don't you think it is
a little too soon for major horrors to show up? If you look at the
earthdawn stats, these are really nasty. FASA is already on track
with the inclusion of the Insect Spirit outbreaks in Bug City(insect
spirits being Invae), so why push it? The rules in BC for insects
awakening when magic is used near them should soon spawn rules for
spell matrices a la earthdawn. Until those come about, I wouldn't
include horrors in a campaign, because they'll just chew through the
average team of runners, that is if the horrors are played the way
they should be. If you are going to tone down horrors to fit a well
balanced campaign, you might as well use insect spirits, wraiths, and
the minor horrors from the modules.

Remember, this is dark future role-playing, not Marvel Super Heroes.

The horror is doing more corrupting than hanging around and killing. As
for why I don't use invae and wraiths, well, the invae are more alien
than horrific and the wraiths are not as intelligent.

Yes, it is dark future, and I am trying to make my future darker, not
Super Hero.

If I recall the number right, from one of the ED books, the Invae were
pestering Landis 200 years beore the scourge started to happen.

Not really. On sites where heavy-duty magic was used, the mana level is WAY
higher than in the rest of the world. Read Harlequin's Back and House Of The
Sun for two examples...

I was once playing around with the idea of an insect shaman allied with a
wraith, together causing destruction :)

Actualy I see the first Horrors coming in through the same place as the Invae.
The invae were able to get through in this place for a very specific reason. This reason
must have been an artificialy high magic level. Also r.e. places with higher magic levels
they are in ED terms thread Items and so we (on the list) should come up with names for
them, not just "the place where the Great ghost dace happened.
