Greetings to all
Please Consider For Discussion
The one thing that I have a gripe about P.A.'s is that there is
no mechanism in either the Grimmy or Awakenings on how to design new
powers for P.A.'s. Awakenings is quite clear that "as magic becomes more
understood new P.A. powers arise." (sorry don't have the exact pg#).
The Grimmy has a well established procedure for designing new
spells. I wonder if anyone has desinged a system to allow players to
design new powers for the Phys Ads.
I suppose that one could debate that Phys Ads don't have enough
access to the astral/metaplanes to generate enough "energy" to create a
new power.
I would argue that there should be a way for a Phys Ad to create
a new ability. Then it just becomes a matter of specific rules.

Agreed. We've created a few new phys-ad abilities, going off the cost of
similar abilities already listed. For example we took the enhanced aim
spell and made it a physad ability: -1 to T# is .5, -2 is 1 point.

I would like to see some design rules set down. Though I probably
wouldn't let a phys-ad design his own poers until he was an initiate.

I think you'd have a very hard time working out such a system, at least
if you want the existing powers to fit into it (which should fit, IMHO).
The way used by everybody, AFAIK, is to design an ability, and compare
its estimated impact on the game to the existing abilities. Then just
make a guestimate to its Magic cost. If the GM later finds it unbalancing
(or too balanced), it can/should be altered to compensate, I think.

It's just not that easy. If I ever have a player come up
with a new PhysAd power I'm just going to make a judgement
call based on the costs and advantages of current PA
powers. And I'll let the player know that if in the future
I feel that I made the cost to low or high, that I will be
changing it.
