How much nuyen should their be for each contract?
I know there are a lot of variables but lets just stay
with a scale of
Impossible Hard Medium Light Null sweat
In my game I find that i give out too much nuyen. I
try
to make up for it by throwing in stuff after the fact.
But i hate doing that.

Well, let's look at the economics of it. The reason these guys make runs is
to pay the bills + some spending cash and expenses (ammo, gas, etc.) This
makes it fairly easy to find the proper amount. Just consult the appropriate
Lifestyle cost and add a couple hundred nuyen. Most everyone will jump down
my throat for this, but I hate the fact that money flows so freely in SR.

What is the appropriate Lifestyle cost, you ask? I go by the Lifestyle of
the enemy. I.E. if you're breaking into Aztech to liquidate the president,
then the fee should be equal to Luxury Lifestyle. If you're clearing the
neighborhood of Barghest droppings, go for a Middle or Low Lifestyle.

If you still give them too much money, don't forget the SOTA.

And if they complain that they're not getting enough, then they should work
more. I work 40 hours a week and I don't get enough, why should some stupid
Ork get more than me?

SOTA (not just for deckers anymore!!)

I come at it from a completely different angle.

I determine a)how much the Johnson can afford to pay and b)how much the
Johnson is *willing* to pay.

Sometimes a rich Johnson who has money to burn and has a personal
interest (his daughter ran away) will pay the runners very well for an
easy (for them) job.

Sometimes they are hired for what appears to be an easy job for not
much money.

In the latter case the runners might call up the Johnson and
renegotiate the conract, "Ten Grand sounded like a good deal just to
find your runaway daughter. But it turns out she was kidnapped by this
group of mages that used her in a ritual summoning and now your
daughter is possessed by a Force 12 Blood Spirit. If you still want
your daughter back it's going to cost you a more than a Grand. If you
want her back alive it's going to cost a *lot* more than a Grand."

Sometimes the "Johnson" can't afford to pay any more money and the
runners have to make a moral decision, "Ten Grand is my life's
savings. I don't have any more money. Please, please save my little
girl."

Course, these are perfect occasions to add contacts, "Okay, we'll save
your daughter. But, you owe us a favor, and sometime in the future
we're going to cash in."

And sometimes they are offered a tough job for very little money (the
neighborhood shopkeepers offer the runners 3000Y to deal with the
*major* gang that has recently expanded it's territory and is making
(the shopkeepers) pay protection money).

My advice is not to cater to the runners, or the players, cater to the
adventure.

Take a look at the new SR Companion.
There's a very nice table that outlines what sort of money an average team
can expect for different jobs.
It covers everything from getting a percentage of the haul on a datsteal, to
how much per head when doing wetwork.
