Well the subject should say it all, but just to clarify:

After reading Matrix I realy would like to build a usefull decker, but there are
so many utilities, and it's diffucult to figure out which ones you need, which
ones could be nice, and which ones are absolutely cra^H^H^Huseless.

I thought about building him with Resources=A (1M), Skills=B (40), Attributes=C
(24), Magic=D (No), Race=E (Human), but would consider swapping resources (400K)
and skills (50).

I can use any rulebook, but the usual starting ratings (6) and availability (8)
applies.

Don't worry about the background, that will be taken care of later. Right now
it's just the stats.

Btw does the max rating 6 apply to MPCP? In that case you can't spend more than
125K on your deck, which leaves a lot of money for utilities, even for a 400K
decker.

Some of the utilities you can't do without are:
* Analyze: to have an idea what your getting into
* Browse: so you can find stuff in the matrix
* Deception: for your logon, logoff
* Read/Write: to get some of the data out of the matrix
* Spoof: to control some of the slaves in the matrix
* Sleaze: to mask your presence
* Attack: to give you some offensive matrix power

There are lot's of other that might still be useful and that you'd want
to get (commlink, decrypt, armor,...) but above are the once you can't
do without (IMHO).

Ask your GM, I usually allow my players to take the MPCP 8, because
normally you wouldn't get a new/improved deck that easy/quick.

Just my thoughts,

I'd say yes, but I'm not positive. <Shrug> TBH, like all things, you build your
way up. Rating 6 is pretty kickass in the early stages of the game. If you're making
runs against Red-10 systems, you're doing something WAY wrong or your GMs a dick :] WIth
a Computer/Decking skill of 6, all the hardware in the world ain't gonna save you in
there.

Buy an off the rack deck, outfit it wth a handful of programs, and go from there.
Dedicate your down time to building a new deck and creating a few programs. By the time
you're done with it, you're skill should match it.

Your skill should match the rating of your deck :]

Spend the rest of that cash buying some gear so that your decker can actually do physical
stuff as well. If all you can do is deck, well... That's where most GMs and Players go
wrong with Deckers. It's no fun if the Decker can do little else...

Yes, it can be over 6 for a starting character, because MPCP is a stat, like
a vehicle's acceleration or a gun's POW. As long as the deck follows other
limits (availability, rating of programs) its OK for a starting character,
regardless of MPCP. The architypes in SR3 bear this out; the combat decker
has a CMT Avatar, which has a MPCP of 7.

And don't forget
*Armor:so that you resist the first punch of the IC
*Cloak:to get out of the path of the IC after the said
punch
*Medic:to heal yourself after you get away

I put those here because when you are a new decker if
you encounter an IC then the first thought must be to
RUN!!The desent battle utilities are expensive and in
the matrix there is no dodge test. You take the damage
and in the beginning (and many time after that) the IC
will be better than you in combat. So the best tactic
is to evade the thing until you are capable to handle
it later.
This was learned after some bitter runs!!

No the maximum rating of 6 does not apply in MPCPs.The
sample decker in the rulebook has an MPCP of 7.
Anyway, build your own deck in the beginning. It's cheap
and it'll be better than almost anything in the book
(my MPCP-6 worked out great!).And buy many utilities
and cyberware for your character. You'll see that the
money are not that much to start with.

About the skills,you don't need alot.Only
computer,computer B/R,electronics and electronics B/R
and you'll be great!!!
