Actually, Immortal elves fit in rather well with Celtic mythology, upon
which most of Shadowrun seems based. According to traditional Celtic
mythology, the Tuatha de Dannan, the founding race of the Celts, were
driven underground by the invading Gael. After being defeated, the Tuatha
went into hiding in the hills, and aided by powerful magic, became
immortal, with the promise to one day return...
Converted to Shadowrun, the time of the Tuatha would more or less equate
to the Fourth World, with the time spent in hiding as the Fifth World.
With the return of magic in the Sixth World, the immortals have once again
left their etheric dwellings to walk among men.
