I'm pretty new to this list, and I don't have much gaming experience
either, but I have a single question for those of you with more
knowledge of such matters. So, o great gurus of SR, here is my
question:

What is a mageblade?

I've seen the term pop up a couple of times on the list and I saw it in
an example in the 1st-ed. Grimmy. Never, however, have I seen an
explanation. Thanx.

Well, I'm not the best one to answer this, since my big claim to fame was
being the smartest Ork Decker to ever live, but, since my Shaman buddy
Johnny 99 has one massive mage blade and I have an enchanted Pike (The long
handled spear-type weapon, NOT the fish, thank you), I can give a basic
answer...

Basically, a mage blade is a sword taht has been magically enchanted and
bonded to a mag/shaman. The sword is strally active, and can unflict
serious harm upon spirits. If bonded to the mage, like Johnny's is, it will
even travel into astral space with you. Also, you can cast other spells
onto the blade, anchoring them there, such as Johnny's slay insect and death
touck. my own pike has a slay insect enchantment on it. As you may have
guess, we lived in Chicago...:)

That's a basic answer, and knowing thsi list, it won't be long before you
get a MUCH more complete answer, complete with full blown technobabble,
diagrams, and theories as to how they work... (Just teasing, guys...:)

Enjoy!

Hey, an easy one for a change!
A mageblade is a weapon focus. You can find all the rules for them in the
main SRII rulebook.

It may be something along the same lines of MageSword which you'll find
in NAGEE (Neo-Anarchists' Guide to Everything Else). There's a link to
an archive for them on my page if you don't find them anywhere else.

Good point. Duh!!! I thwap myself...I want you to thwap me...

I retract my earlier comment of it being akin to MageSword (a spell) in
NAGEE...though I still encourage you to check them out. Mageblade is
actually a term used more in 1st Edition, when referring to the original
Weapon/Power foci combinations that now would be stack foci. I think the
first real reference was in the short stori where Sam Verner is on the
Renraku shuttle taht gets hi-jacked by Sally Tusng and Company. They
refer to him seeing a sword strapped to her thigh that must be a
"mage-blade."

As far as i know its another name for a weapon focus. See SR2 or GR2.
It has also been used to mean weapon/power foci combination in SR1
made as a sword. This again is discussed in GR2. Basically its
another name for something, and fairly popular in the gmae universe
with mundanes that don't know exactly what they are talking about i
believe.

Actually if memory serves, I believe that a mageblade(which was first
mentioned in that crappy story in the begining of the blue book)is a
stacked weapon/power focus. I can't remember where in the SR2 rules it is
(enchanting section maybe) but they mentioned it in passing in the SR1
Grimmy.
