Ok, _DO_NOT_ Thwap me for this . . . .

Most illusion spells are LOS, correct? So what if I cast something like
a, for lack of a better term, Phantasmal Force, on the moon. I make it
appear as a giant flaming pumpkin. Would anyone looking at the moon
instead see a flaming pumpkin?

Or do I have to target the person themselves, thus only the people I cast
at see a gian flaming pumpkin, while everyoen else on the planet see a
romantic moon?

YEs you can cast a phantasmal force at the moon.
problems

1. optional distance modifiers

2. really small area of effect - sure a 6m radius part of the moon looks like a
flaming pumpkin - only a really good telescope will see it.

3. will it burn the cheese.

4. Will the magic work in outer space?

Illusion spells - Chaotics effect people - you cast at them
others effect people or things - not cast at person seeing it.
(this is why you are invisible to people behind you)

Oh and hear comes the thwapp.

And there lies the problem... Take a look in the NATRL. It explains
about the geas (sp?) sphere. It surrounds the earth but ends in the
outer atmosphere. And spells need astral space to "leap" across to the
moon. Sorry. No pumpkin.

It would be pretty cool if you could though. I thing that planes flying
overhead (visable and everything) would make some pretty good targets...

No thwap as per your request. (I don't even own a carp!)

Well it does depend on what kind of illusion spell you casst, now doesn't
it? But seriously I would tend towards saying that since the target is in
a place with no mana that the spell would not affect it.

My, my aren't people touchy about these thwaps that have recently been
handed out with great exuberance. I believe that some people are all to
eager to be critical of others' ideas and castigate them in a thoroughly
unruly manner by thwapping them with whatever happens to be handy. Such
activity only leads to meekness in others and an unwillingness to submit
ideas and exchange information (which is this listserv's charter).

And for those who crave thwapping like the vile addiction that it is I
have the phone number for the thwapper's addiction wing of Charter (a
subsidiary of Doc Wagon, Inc.). "If you don't get help at Charter, get
help somewhere."
