I need .gifs & .jpgs for an equipment book that I am compiling for a
homegrown rules system, and not having access toa scanner is possibly my
biggest problem. The kind of images I need would ideally be small,
monochrome, and have no backgounds (depictions of guns/equipment perhaps
cyberware). Scanned pictures from the SSC/Chromebooks would be ideal (I
must stress at this point that this material would _not_ be distributed,
kept on-line, or profited from in any way), but I as yet have to find
anything remotely resembling this, and leafing through military sites
tidying up any graphics is becoming an unsatisfactory chore.

If any of you know where I could find images like this I would
appreciate it. My equipment book is something that is long overdue, and
I'd like it to look good. If anyone has any precedents of this nature
I'd be willing to hear from them too, I've no desire to piss anyone off
or abuse copyrights.

Richard.

If you only need it for home use and not for electronic distribution, what
you can do is the following: photocopy the pictures from your SSC or any
other game book, and leave open a space in the text large enough for the
picture (if you use Word, put a frame on the page so you can mvoe it
around easily). Then print out the book, paste in the pictures, and
photocopy the result.

That's a bit messy really, and I need to be able to make a couple of
copies so my players can have a read through. Besides, I don't have all
the source material, and the stuff I do have isn't with me (it's at my
folks house, friends, long time loan, etc. etc.).

I already have a decent-ish amount of graphics, mostly gun pics that
were painstakingly searched for (in between all those 5th amendment
arguments). But I'm really missing all those hi-tech stuff, and hell,
the quality of some of the images is a bit suspect (after greyscaling &
edge detection etc.).

Richard. What I'd do for a scanner....

It's your choice, of course, but if I didn't have a scanner, I'd probably
do it this way.

Do you have my Plastic Warriors books? If you do, you can copy the images
out of that pretty easily. Not all of them are great quality, but with
some shading and highlighting (especially shading) you should be able to
make something out of them. In a Windows-based word processor, you should
have little trouble selecting an image and copying it to th clipboard, so
you can paste it into either the document you want it in, or into a
graphics program for editing.

I've got an A4 flatbed scanner right here in front of me *grin*

Yeah but I've got trouble with losing rule books (the ones I make) and
getting them mauled. I rarely get the time to work on my RPG stuff as is
(damn them employers), and I can't afford to go remaking stuff everytime
it gets lost, or multiple copies even. I'm a real fan of electronic
media... give a player a disc with the files, and he has it. Tends to be
the way I like things: infinitely reproducable.

Hmm, the 1.2Mb price tag was a bit steep for my sensibilities (or more
to the point my internet connection) but now that corporate america is
still in bed, it's plodding along at a "zippy" 5k/sec. I'll have a
gander at some of them, give you my (oft unwanted) opinion. If your
mailer can handle it, I could send you on some of my stuff (mostly guns)
all in .gif B/W 20k-ish format.
