Well, it's good to be back. After being off of the list for a couple of
months, and not playing any shadowrun for a number of years, let me tell you
that it's good to be back.

Anyways, Here goes.
In SRIII, the rulebook states that flechette rounds are very effective
against unarmored targets, but are almost useless against those with armor.
For game mechanics, it says, Against unarmored targets, flechette rounds
increase their Damage Codes by one level. It then says that against armored
targets, you take the greater of double impact or ballistic. It also notes
that Dermal armor negates the Damage Level increase. My question is do
armored targets use the increased damage level from flechettes? I'd think
not, since it makes flechette rounds not really have a downside, since most
armor's impact is about 1/2 it's ballistic. Thoughts?

As another recent returnee to the list, Ted, let me say, "Welcome
back."

Ted - look at the wording of your quote. Against UNARMOURED targets it
increases their damage codes. By definition, that means that if firing
on armoured targets, including targets with dermal armour, as
specifically noted, the damage is not increased. ALSO, there is the
ballistic or 2 x impact thing. You just have to think about the
wording. Just because it doesn't specifically state that the damage is
NOT increased against armoured targets doesn't mean that it is.

that you should - but that would be crass...*

According to Ted Cabeen, at 19:32 on 20 Apr 99, the word on
the street was...

Your answer is in this line: "Against unarmored targets, flechette rounds
increase their Damage Codes by one level." Targets with armor are,
clearly, not unarmored, so the Damage Level would not be increased.
