Shouldn't that have been Sex, GUNS, and Rock 'n' Roll ?

Hmmmm, just got hold of Celtic Double Cross. I haven't read my
Tir Na nOg book cover to cover yet, so does anyone know if Galic-Spetherial
is just a variant of Spetherial (ie has a couple of Irish terms chucked in)
or is a totally different language ?

Ideas and game mechanics anyone ?

Also, if everybody who misspelled things on this list was replied to like
that, our mailboxes would start spamming within a few hours.
In other words, pointing out things like that is extremely anal
retentive. Get a life.
Not a flame, so don't bother flaming back. Well, okay, it was a

Well, It certainly has been a long time. I _finally_ got back on the
list. It turns out that when the server sent my resubscription message,
the campus hub went down. When I tried to subscribe to the list again,
the 48 hour confirmation deadline went out before I could confirm (I
guess the server was really slow). Anyway, I'm back.

I also have a question. I know this may sound really stupid, but could
someone either tell me or point me to a source of the answer of this
question?

How does one resolve layered armor (e.g. when a character who is wearing
two pieces of armor, one with ballistic 2 and the other with ballistic 3,
and is shot with a weapon of power 6)?

Thanks,

If I remember correctly, you halve the rating of the lower rated piece and
add it to the higher rated piece, round fractions down.

Sounds reasonable enough, but what if you have three or four pieces of armor?
Hypothetically, of course.

Then you look like a tick about to pop.

But really, (now I'm trying to remember the rule) I think it goes that
something which is max armor is supllanted over any other armor. All
other armor is divided in two as per the rule.
I.e. Gerogio Armani-Sam is stompin' through Denver during winter and is
walking to a club. It's cold so he's wearing his long coat (4/2), armor
jacket underneath, armor clothing and form fitting (he's expecting a
moose to gore him or something...). His rating would be the (5/3) for
the jacket, then add .5 * the coat (2/1), .5 * the FF3 (2/1), .5* armor
clothing (1/0). His total armor would be (5+2+2+1=)10 ballistic and
(3+1+1+0=) 5 impact. Of course, he'd look silly, like a walking corn puff.

Also remember this is only time in SR when you do NOT get screwed with
fractions. It's round all fractions up time.

The actual rule is to add one-half the rating of the second-highest-rated
piece of armor to the highest-rated piece of armor. So, if you wear one set
of armor with Ballistic 6, one with Bal. 4 and one with Bal. 3, you have
Ballistic armor 8.

Hypothetically speaking, your character will then look more like a tin can
then a shadowrunner. If memory serves, the rules only permits advantage of
two layers of armour, that is, the full rating of the best piece of armour
plus half the rating of the second best (unless you choose otherwise
ofcourse ;). Anything else is just for the show. At least this is the rules
I'm using, and it work's just fine. Having more than two layers of armour
(two layers of clothing) would be clumsy, warm and very disadvantageous
concerning speed and movement in a quick and deadly fight, which you'll just
more than likely run into in a game like Shadowrun.

Natural armour and magical barriers is unaffected by any worn armor, adding
their full rating to the final armorvalue.>

Hoi chummers,

I have returned (%like anyone knew I was missing%). My email, name, and
entire internet access has been changed (are not Universities
wonderful--grin--). If you need it, my new email address is in my sig.

So what has been happening? I just received the notice from JD about
Scientology and the net. Thanks for the info, I wish xs4all users the best.

Anything else I need to know before I join the fray, once again?

Thanks.
Enjoy.

Hey Gang!

I'm back from two weeks of getting married and honeymooning.

I've got 1100+ messages to weed through and see if I've missed anything
terribly interesting. So I'll be trying to pick up on the current threads
where I find them.

Anything that I've missed that I should be aware of up front? Any heated
debates I might stumble into the crossfire of? Any threads that have
meandered off into some senseless direction I should just avoid? (As if the
ever happens here :o)

It's good to be home again, though the Bahamas were nice...

I have absolutely no idea if any of you missed me or even know who I am to
notice that I've been gone, but suffice to say, that I'm back.

This time however, it's from home, not from my university account. What I
need to know is, am I sending any weird attachments or anything that's
going to set people off?

Anyway, bye for know,

Ray

Nothing attachments (weird or otherwise) received here.

Ancient cultures believed that names held great power, personal
names more so and they were guarded very closely. To protect themselves,
they answered to another name, because if another discovered their real
name, it could be used against them.
History repeats itself.

Hey people,

I'm back. I noted that my mail account was corrupted somehow while I
left. I didn't bounce a tonne of mail back to the list did I?

Actually, checking back on logs, I haven't been bouncing that long. If
I'm correct, my mailbox only became corrupt during the weekend. Any
bounces before then are not my fault!

Well, the summer holidays are over, and the sysadmin staff here at Uni have
de-archived all the accounts.

Do you realise that I had 2,749 messages from the list over the break?
You guys sure can spam. *grin*

I'm currently doing a mighty expunge session, and then I'll be back to
spam the list as usual.

Hope everyone has had a good few months.

Cheers.

Ummm, I've been looking at the date stamps on the mail, and it's pretty
much from the 13th of January onwards..... I've got no way of finding out
if I missed any.

I'm truly surprised the account didn't start bouncing after the 300th
message or so.

Oh, and BTW.... If I did miss any please don't tell me; I've still got
about 400 messages that I want to read.... the rest I've expunged.

Hmmm...well, you maybe didn't. The list has been kinda slow lately (100
or fewer messages a day, I think), so you may be safe...However, since i
don't keep track, i don't really know:)

I got to come back in September after Juno upgraded their software
without telling me, so that I could send out, but was unable to retrieve
any of my mail...after just over 1500 messages, the Juno mailbox crapped
out on me and I lost a couple weeks' worth of oh-so-valuable list traffic
(can you hear the sarcasm there?) I spent a couple weeks after I
re-installed Juno reading all the back mail in the account...

The general idea is not to lose your account at all; We have no choice
as the Bastard Operators archive all the accounts over summer, whether or
not you've staying at university.

You know, I haven't had a holiday longer than two weeks in over two years.

greetings fellow SR addicts.

And to start things off, a question on bioware.
Does Bio. effect a Phys. Ad.'s essence? or for that matter a Mages essence?

Bioware does not affect any characters essesnce but it will reduce any
magician's magic rating by the body index of the piece. Bioware also adds
one half it's body index to the target number for magical healing. That
makes the cybered, biowared Sammie even that much harder to heal.

Officially, yes. Many groups use a house rule in which it only reduces
Magic Rating, rather than Essence (which would also effect a reduction in
Magic).

Wrong. Check Shadowtech p. 4. You ae referring to a house rule.

Of course it does....
It's in the shadowtech sourcebook....

It says something along the lines of "As magicians are more in tune with
their aura, bioware costs an equal number of points in essence as Body
Index".

Or words to that effect....

Page quote anyone?

However, many people change this rule and say it lowers the Magic
Attribute _as_if_ it costs Essence, but Essence is not actually lowered.
For example, a magician character with 5.3 Essence and .8 Body Index
would have Essence 5.3 and a Magic Rating of 5.3 - .8 = 4.5, rounded down
to 4.

Somewhere in the very beginning, page 5 or 6 or so (I'm too lazy to look
it up right now :)

For the NERPS FAQs, these should work:

http://www.xs4all.nl/~gurth/NERPS%20FAQ%20A.txt

and

http://www.xs4all.nl/~gurth/NERPS%20FAQ%20B.txt

They're case-sensitive, BTW.

Hi all you happy people; It's been a good year and a half since I was on
the list. To sum up: I'm graduated, got a real job, got a house, spend all
of my money on house payments, and student loan payments. To sum up I'm as
poor now as I was when I was in school.

Also I'm using Outlook Express and I *think* that I've got it setup to send
just plain text without HTML hooey or any Winmail.dat bullshit. If I'm
wrong and I'm spewing Gatesian Crap at the list, let me know, and I'll make
sure that it doesn't happen again.

My Shadowrun web site is http://freeweb.pdq.net/wmashe/shadowrun.html come
check out my fiction section.

Also if anyone in the Houston Tx area wants to start a game IRL (I've got
enough PBeM's going), or has space in a game for me let me know. I can
either play or GM (hopefully do both).

Well, after spending five days in Great Bend, Kansas, with grieving
in-laws, I'm back. I've had enough cold-cuts and casaroles to last me
for the rest of my life :p On the other hand I and my in-laws got to
know eachother better.

What's up with the ShadowRN T-shirt?

Voting continues. Tomorrow is the voting deadline, so for those of
you that haven't voted yet, hit:

www.geocities.com/TimesSquare/Alley/6990/rntshirt.html

Question for the list:
When the voting is complete, do you just want me to announce the
winner, or do you want me to post a tally of the results?

It may be a good Idea to list the submissions in order of the number of

HUH? a force 5 spell (maybe with fetish orexclusive requirements) will
dothejob quite nicely. Resiting even 2D is not THAT hard, and 2M is
trivial. I'm not saying drain SHOULD be continually resited- just that
it CAN be, especially with centering. And its an interesting way to tie
up magic pool for sustaining spells.

Another, equally well, way to tie up magic pool is to say any pool dice spent
on casting a sustained spell isn't refreshed until that spell is dropped.

(Actually that doesn't sound too stupid...).

Bull didn't say that. I did. and remember that the T# penalties from
previous actions make resisting drain a little bit harder and fetish and
exclusive spells shouldn't, IMO, be the standard in a game but rather
what /some/ mages use with /some/ spells to give their magic a boost.
And remember that some spells like healing need to be sustained in order
to have any effect ...

Drain Resistance Test, p 132: "No target modifiers apply to this
test."
(Its a damage resitance test- you don't bump up the power of weapons
against mages sutaing spells, do you?)

I'm rememebring all that - a force 5 UNMODIFIED Heal spell can still be
very effective. And its one of the more common spells to use fetishes
for, I'd say, based off "historic" magic. Its also a spell that can and
should beused when you are not distracted, so its commonly
exclusive.I'll admit, thosemodsare fairly common in our game- its more
like, do you think you need the BASE version for some reason? Quite
often you do, but if you don't, why not take the bonus force / save some
karma / reduce the drain?

hey alfredo...
sorry to tell ya but when resisting drain, NO target modifiers apply,
including injury modifiers (which never apply to things like resisting
damage or drain)...see the section on resisting drain in the spell casting
explanation part of the BBB.

It seems logical but a bit harsh perhaps... (it must be the first
time and perhaps the last I write something like this so remember
it... :)
I use something similar with karma pool. If a mage uses karma pool on
the casting of a spell in a spell lock or a quickening, the spent
karma pool is imprisonned into the lock and can only be recovered
when the lock is broken.
I don't know what I would do if the lock was broken while the mage is
in an astral quest... Since none of my players ever had this idea. :)

Hmmm, SR3 teasers and rants, the woodchuck thread, the Chuch of boB, the
ongoing Cybersex thread, the flying tank thread, bul actualy being on
topic, bull being off topic, everying else being off topic. I would say
it was just the usual mayhem for the list so you didnt miss much.

Well, that depends. If you mean on the list, just the usual, with a
bit more SR3 stuff. If you mean IRC and/or ppl IRL, there's been a
bit happening. For me and one or two others, at least

Yeah, too bad about that. Seems like you've been having a really
bad year. Well, you can at least take solace in the fact that you're
not the only one who can't make GenCon this year. ;)

Living in Queensland myself I can certainly say it's like
about how an ork might feel living in a Humanis run state.
The parties that lost alot of their votes to Redneck Nation
are talking about taking their right wing policies even further
to the right to try and win back the lost masses of ignorance.

To put a Shadowrun twist on this is Humanis a legal political
party or a banned organisation in your game? It could be
scary if they were a legally recognised politcal party. I
personally don't have any source material on them and
was wondering if there was ever anything printed.

In a word, no. When it related to SR it was okay. When it dealt mainly with
anal stimulation and penile piercing, it could have been better served in
private mail or one of the many newsgroups devoted to those practices.

In my game the Humanis Policclub is a legal political party.
However, they have problems in that Alamos 2000 is
outlawed. makes for a lot of fun, considering most of my
players are non-human

Well actually, we(they) did. And most of them missed you the most MC ... BTW,
your "Friend" never did show up or raise his head to pick up your shirt. I
was nice, and never told anyone whom you are. I have also find the
misinformation campaign with Dvixen absolutely laughable.

Now you are going to have to come up with a way for the shirt to reach you, as
I didn't resell it too anyone while I was there.

For that matter, Scott Spencer, -YOU- never showed up either, and need to get
in touch with me as well.

He did get me _A Shadowrun_ shirt, just not _the ShadowRN_ shirt.
While hoping some one at the FASA booth could point him in the right
direction they just gave up and gave him one of their Shadowrun shirts.
Thinking he's fulfilled his programming he considered his quest ended.

Tell me about it. I had a whole run go to hell as the players tried to find
that out. Its a subject the GM has touble dealing with on the fly. And
guess what ? Its exactly the same deal with Enhanced Physical Attributes.

Of course if you want to be munchy you can always make yourself a mutant
woodchuck with an innate area efect levetate spell and chuck wood to your
hearts content.

I second the motion. Now, we are auctioning for the parts of the torturer
and executioner. Bids will start at .02 yen.

*Strago growls at kawaii, "I better get the part of torturer. Or else I'll just
practice on YOU. And who am I supposed to torture again?" Then he takes his
medication. "Oh, I bid 5 ¥"*
