These comments made me think of a conversation I've frequently had with
Shadowrun groups.

If cyberware existed, what's the first piece you'd get?

Me, it'd be eyes. I'm extremely nearsighted, so new eyes would be fabulous.
The fact that I can get them modified so I can see in the dark, watch heat
trails, not get blinded by glare, have an integral telescope, and a built
in video camera is just icing on the cake.

Number two would probably be the Sleep Regulator though... or Clean Metabolism.

First, a datajack. This thing is just limitless. Then, some headware
memory and a couple of retinal mods (image link and low-light or
thermo). And finally, a math SPU and a sleep regulator (though I think
I'd be more reluctant to get bioware implanted than cyber...).

A nice old thread that comes up way to seldom these days (but then
everything does on this list).

cyber>

Are you all for real, why on earth would you cut out your perfectly well
working eyes?

I'm nearsightet, I can't even see which style my hairdresser cuts until I
put on my glasses again, but I would never let anybody cut out my eyes.

Now if I was blind, or if my hearing was ruined, or if my leg was blown off,
then I think I would get cyber, but not if I could do without.

There has to be disadvantages to each piece of cyber, which is in fact
something I miss in SR. Sure you loose some essence, but that's hardly
enough. The stress rules are fine for damaged cyberware, but I would just
like each piece of cyberware to have an inbuilt failt.

Something like cyberlimbs having lass feeling, cybereyes focusing to much
and thus giving you a limited tunnelvision, etc.

If they were perfectly well working, I wouldn't be nearsighted. Without
glasses, I might as well be blind. I literally can't see past the end of my
nose.

Oh... And I have no depth perception, so let's toss a range finder in
there, too. Not that the new eyes won't have good depth perception, but
it'd be a nice change to know /exactly/ how far away things are.

Excerpt from an old 2nd ed SB. Cybertechnology I think:
"I can always tell if somebody has cybereyes, no matter how real they look.
Something about how 'the eyes are the window to the soul' or something..."

Personally? I'd rather have new eyes then wear by BCGs or any other
glasses. And I've already worn my contacts for so long one time that I put
a hole in my corenia (I heal fast though). I just don't want to be bothered
with my sh*** eyes. And if I can get starlight (so I don't knock my shins
into the table in the dark) and vision mag (built in Binocs for sporting
events and concerts) all the better.

I would probably get Lowlight vision either as cyber or Bioware if available
to the common man. I like the near-darkness more then the light of the sun
(No I do not believe myself to be a vamp or something like that) and maybe
optical magnifications. Hearing damper as well if I move into a bigger, more
active city. If I loss a limb it would be nice to have it replaced though I
would rather have one cloned than a "robotic". Hmm gadgets inside one such
as personal sec could be nice, if it wasnt for the rapid development of such
things ...

Cyber eye's (No more specticals!)
Lowlight.

Cyberears:
