On the subject of game lethality, has anyone had a team break up or fall
apart because they lost an important character? This has happened twice to
the guys I run with - once in SR and once in BTech. In Shadowrun, 8-Ball
took a cannon to the head, and that was the end of that. In BTech we were
ambushed on the way back home from a campaign and had to fight an honor
battle with the clans - 2 of our 4 officers bit it. In either case, we
never ran with that team again. I was just wondering if we're the only
disfuncitonal runners out there ;-)

I'm currently in a Dragonlance game that is kinda like
that. The one person keeping us all from killing each
other is a big barbarian named Redmoss. Unfortunately
Dan, who plays Redmoss, is kinda fed up with playing
the big dumb barbarian and I'm afraid of what will
happen if he gets the barbarian killed. Frankly I
think that the game we have is actually one of the
best I've been in and I really don't want to see
anything bad happen. The GM is trying to find a way to
keep the PCs dependant on each other so that we don't
split up if something does happen to Redmoss.

Our teams tend to merge from one into the next: PCs die, or leave for some
other reason, and they get replaced by another PC of the same player.
After a few more replacements, you think about it and suddenly realize
that three quarters of the team is different from what it was a year ago,
but somehow it's still the same team -- but it's also different.

The only reasons in our group for which we've actually broken up a PC team
in SR, were one case of extreme disfunction between both the PCs and the
players (both influenced each other), and another case where we decided to
stop the campaign because too many players were dropping out, so there
weren't enough PCs left to be a pirate gang.
