Subject: Industrial/petrochemical areas in Denver?
Date: Fri, 14 Jan 2005 14:18:54 +0100
Are there any areas with industrial, or preferably petrochemical, sites
around Denver? Neither the boxed set nor my 1999 map of the city really
helps with this kind of question, but since next session I want to send my
group to do a run against such a target, some idea of where such sites are
located IRL would come in handy. UCAS sector is preferred, but any except
Aztlan or Pueblo will do (because my players refuse to go to either).

And yes, I realize I can just make it up by pointing at the map. However,
with the exception of Denver proper, I find it very hard to relate the
road network on the FRFZ map from the Denver set to what each cluster of
streets might actually be :( (I mean, some names of present-day towns and
cities would have helped...)

There are a few. A quick search on www.yellowpages.com turned up a few. Here
is one that I found for you that is currently located down town I think.
Also there is a link to an aerial photo.

Oh yes. The area you want is called commerce city :)

http://terraserver.microsoft.com/image.aspx?T=1&S&Z&X15&Y'52&W=1&qs=%7cdenver%7cco%7c

All of the little white circles near the top-center of the image are
part of a petrochemical farm. If you pan south there is a large
Purina dog food plant just south of I-70.

http://terraserver.microsoft.com/image.aspx?T=1&S&Z&X%16&Y"015&W=1&qs=%7cdenver%7cco%7c

And then there's the Cherokee Station power plant (with several large
coal-fired steam generators.

http://terraserver.microsoft.com/image.aspx?T=1&S&Z&X57&Y015&W=1&qs=%7cdenver%7cco%7c

And of course the area is filled with warehouses with large and small
production type businesses, and other industrial plants. Just for the
record the ShadowRN T-Shirt that I produced was printed in the SE
corner of Commerce City ;)

Enjoy :)

That is on the map I bought at some point while you were showing me around
the city :)

Dog food plant? That sounds too good to pass up on for an adventure...

Heh, that means it works out just great with the location I picked for a
warehouse last session -- I looked at the RL map and figured that an area
called Commerce City would probably have plenty :)

Thanks, and to Graxius too :)

Another question, this one to help me place this photo: is the diagonal
highway (running from the "NORTH" to the "EAST" labels by the map) no.

270, and thus the river at top left the South Platte, with Riverside
Cemetary just below it?

Great, that means I can start working out what _exactly_ I want the PCs to
do at this chemical plant, besides that it has to involve someone hiring
the PCs to put a light to some oil tanks... *EGMG*

Hrm - do they have to declare that as "added protein"? And if so, how much
"added protein" is a troll worth? ;)

Y'know that might actually make a good way to hide evidence.... Hrm......
