Well, since Fro (My holy leader. Nawt.) isn't on as much because of
his shitty provider... Let me try to help you out.

First, mIRC is a PC client for IRC (Internet Relay Chat). A lot of people
make the mistake of calling IRC mIRC, which is really annoying. Fro "owns"
a channel on Undernet, a global IRC network and IMHO the best one out there.
To get on Undernet, type /server sandiego.ca.us.undernet.org 6666 or any
port numbered 6660-6670. If you have any troubles with SanDiego, try
us.undernet.org 6667. Once you are on Undernet, type /join #Shadowrun. Once
you are there, you will most likely see me, Fro, Dodger, Ashlocke, GrendelKH,
Dvixen (Where'd she go, anyway?), or a number of other Operators and
regulars. There are two bots; CaptChaos and X. CaptChaos is an "eggdrop" bot
provided by Fro for various internal op/friends-chatter and channel stuff.
X is a "channel-holder" type bot, and typing /who X or /who W is not
a good thing to do, as they are in thousands of channels.

If I've made any sense, you should make it to #Shadowrun where you can then
grovel for more information. Don't type in all caps, use colors, or be lame.
I and several other Ops are grumpy and hate that. You can also see some
stuff about the channel at http://home.shadowrun.ml.org/irc, I think.

There, I'm done. Oh yeah, you, don't make multiple postings about the same
thing! *growl*

Well, I think there are a couple...

there are 2 (sort of) on Undernet.

#Shadowrun -- Owned and Run by the AFL of this list Fro.
#Shadowrun-Game -- related to #Shadowrun, this is the channel for on-line
gaming via IRC. This channel is run and owned by Dvixen, also a listmember
(currently taking a vacation due from the list).

There's anotherone on another IRC server, but i don't know what that one is...

What software do you need for IRC or mIRC? Is it available on the
web or do you have to buy it?

You can get the shareware version of mIRC @
http://www.geocities.com/SiliconValley/Park/6000/index.html

If someone knows of a freeware IRC-client, let us know.

Http://www.mirc.co.uk would be the official site..mIRC *is* shareware, but
I don't think its crippled in any way. pIRCh is also a decent 'doze
client, but I hate the web page, and prefer mIRC's layout. They'res also a
few ircII and BitchX ports for windows, but they aren't so hot..

mIRC is what, 15 bucks? Pirch is more than that, I think.. get the
shareware of both, and choose the one you like the most. I would'nt
recommend any of the other clients for beginners. Xircon is a bit, well,
bare... (Unless you already know TCL). WSirc is buggy as hell, and I don't
believe suppported anymore.

mIRC is one of the programs you can use to get on IRC. There's loads of
others, and they're probably all to be found on the net somewhere, either
as shareware or freeware. (There'll probably one more once Fro gets hold
of an OCX that sorts out the protocols for him :)
