Meine Kamaraden:

This question is being posed for The Reverend, who is otherwise indisposed.

For those of you who have viewed one of the various installments of the
TekWar series,

How would Jake Cardigan's non-lethal pistol translate into ShadowRun,
if possible?

I, myself, have only viewed said series on a few occasions and hence do not
consider myself sufficiently informed to judge as to the feasibility of this
weapon or even under what principle his particular handgun operates.

Opinions/observations/comments ENTHUSIASTICALLY sought!

I've seen two of the TekWar movies (the first, and the 3rd [the one about
King Authur]) and to be honest, I don't understand the gun at all.

well i don't think you can use something that powerful period. maybe like a
taser just to balance. if you saw knight rider 2000 guns were outlawed so they
used sonic stunners mostly for knock down. as to how this would translate I
have no clue. cool idea tho...i was interested in making something similar but
in a hi-freq range. as mentioned in one of the source books hit the right
frequency and you can crack/shatter glass, optical chips, etc etc etc....

Really? They pretty much explained it in full in TekWar. If I had any
idea of how SRII's damage system worked, I would build up a version...

First: Congrats Hayden. 4.0. *shudder* Well, I suppose someone
has to get it.

The gun (tekwar) is non-lethal at anything but point blank range.
Supposed to be a plasma weapon of some sort. I read the book after
seeing the show. Now I remember why I do that sort of thing.

The gun (neuromancer) is a shotgun loaded with jelly/sand bean bags.
Lethal at short to point blank range. Or certain vital spots.

Other than that, I don't know. I do remember that we had the discussion
about the shotgun last year. Someone came up with the ammo and damage
but I don't remember who. I think the ammo was called hydrostatic.

Please post any information which you possess, as I am certain you would
agree that any information is significantly better than none.

Perhaps if we discover the mechanics, an initial stab may be made to
generate some statistics.

As posted before, the plasma gun from TekWar works almost exactly like a
sawed-off shotgun (think Roomsweeper) with riot-suppression rounds (heavy
on the stun, reasons later).
Big problem - it's gotta hit in the mid- to upper-torso area to have
stun effect. A hit on the head would certainly knock someone out -
possibly cause fatality. A hit on the outer extremities would cause
breakage on lighter-boned persons.
Ballistic armor doesn't hinder the effectiveness of the gun (or the RS
rounds), since it works by expanding just before impact and knocking the
person over, and knocking the wind out of them. The RS rounds get to be
about 3 inches in dia. upon impact. Seems that the PPG (pulsed plasma
gun) rounds (okay, YOU find a name for it) get to be about the same size
upon impact.
Both RS rounds, and the PPG would follow the ram rules (use GURPS for a
guide if SR doesn't have it), tho I would leave it to Beowulf to throw out
actual numbers. For sake of illustration, take a 40-foot rig, fully
loaded. Put a lance on the front. Now figure the impact of the tip of
that lance (with a 4" dia) if the rig was doing 10 mph.
Basically, for the PPG, take the stats of the 12-guage RS rounds. You
wouldn't have the same space requirement, since the PPG is an energy
weapon, but you should be able to get it.
