Hi, it's been several years for me (since the heydey of Doctor Doom, no
less), but I am back.

Ahem. Anyway. Here goes my question.

I am starting up a fresh new Shadowrun campaign, after several years
(read: two) of not running the game consistently. (I had dallied about on
the several online Shadowrun games.)

The game goes well. Everything is fine. BUT. Two problems.

1. Where did Paolo's site run off to?

2. Can anyone recommend good Web/FTP sites for source material?

3. I use the point based system out of the Companion (I find it
far more versatile characters) and I have heard that SR3 does
not transfer that well - IE, point based characters are flawed.
Can anyone reply to me via personal e-mail on their suggestions
for this supposed problem? I am getting SR3 this week and will
need to update the characters.

Anyway. That's a good start.

Oh, by the way. I'm Matt. Hi.

Welcome back.

It's current offline while being physically rewritten, and moved
to canada. Adam J, has been giving us regular updates.

> 2. Can anyone recommend good Web/FTP sites for source material?

Best idea, go to the SR webring, and surf through it. Lots of good
stuff there.

Actually you can still use it without a problem. You just have to
scale the points around alittle bit, and readjust a few things. I don't
have the info handy, but I know several folks have posted their
thoughts on using the point system and SR3. Check the list archives
for the last 3 monthes. They should be in there.

I'd like to ask anyone who's gonna (or who did)
respond to this to reply either to me as well, or to
the list. I'd love to know how you guys deal with
this.
Personally, as a really quick fix, I kept everything
the same except for Race. Because being Metahuman
seems so much easier in SR3, I did the following:
Elf or Troll: 5 points
Ork or Dwarf: 0 points
Human: -5 (IOW, get five extra points)

This obviously needs a lot of tweaking, but it was a
desperate situation, so faster was better.

James Ojaste had a version where he recalced the costs so the total was
still 100 points. Me I went the simple way. To compensate for the extra
points for each skill pick, increase the BPs available by 10. The stat
picks on average give an extra 3 points so increase the BPs available by
6. Due to the changes to the Races, Dwarves and Orks cost 5 BPs, Elves
and Trolls cost 10 BPs, Humans and Shapeshifters are unchanged...
everything else (houserule races, metahuman variants, etc.) will have to
be worked out on a case by case basis. Lastly adjust the resources
according to the new priorities in SR3.

In summary, +16 BPs, Dwarves & Orks cost 5 points, and resources are now
0 points for 5,000 nuyen, 5 points for 20,000 nuyen. Everything else is
unchanged.

Please do not take this as gospel, but things are looking good for this
weekend. If you want to know right when the site goes up, Undernet
#Shadowrun is -the- place. ShadowRN and the other Itribe lists will be the
next to know..

Wait until the new Archive comes up.. <grin>

There's a bunch of alternate point systems that people have written and
published online.

Actually, if anyone has written a SR3 points system, -please- email me and
let me know where I can find it, as I could be using this resource myself
real soon now.

I haven't seen any such systems, but I have calculated the point costs
under the SRC system for all possible combinations under the SR3 Priority
Table. (And to answer the next obvious question, because I wanted to know,
and because I could. It's great to be mathematically non-challenged... ;) )

Point costs range from 98 to 131 points, depending on Priority
arrangements. Average cost is 118.65 points among all combinations. I
recommend using 120 points, and using Edges and Flaws to balance out
characters outside the curve.

Deirdre Brooks has a SR3 points system up on her site:
http://www.teleport.com/~xenya/sr3comp.html

And James Ojaste has a system of his own at:
http://ojaste.ml.org/~ojastej/SRII/Points.html

near future.)

Sorry - that was somebody else. I reverse-engineered the whole
priority table and tweaked it a bit. I ended up with 120 points to
spend, with changes for the costs of mages, race and resources.
