Perhaps what are referred to in Earthdawn as "the horrors"? The greeblies
that live in astral space and are being kept out in orbit in SR by the low
mana field? In Earthdawn, they're running loose all over the planet, and
doing SR-style "raw magic" without setting up protections first is an open
invitation to a greeblie to be its lunch. When the mana field rises sufficientl
y
in the SR world, the horrors will return. You =do= know about the repetitive
spike theory, right? That we're still in a rising mana field in SR, and that
there will be more spikes and sudden rises before it settles out?

To be more precise (Spoilers!) they're large free spirits that can only
make the jump to earth when the mana level is high enough. And they're
very hungry.

The invae are pretty easily picked as the insect spirits. Both Harlequin and
Dark Tooth are pretty nonchalant about them, and Dunkelzahn even mentions
how easily humankind seems to be handling them, without any proper warning
or instruction. Since "invae" also looks very Latin-ish for "invading"
or "parasitical" (not in real Latin, of course, but it looks it), which
covers the birth cycle of the Flesh Form insect spirits pretty well,
I'd say that even more pegs the name. Finally, of course, at the time of
"Wyrm Talk"'s writing, nothing about the Horrors had been mentioned (outside
of the glorious cursed Power Focus from Hell in one of the adventures),
while plenty had been made of the insectoids, what with the UB sourcebook
and Queen Euphoria (along with fiction like 2XS, and even Out of the Shadows).

The invae are the insect spirits, who just possess people, while the Horrors
make Force 12 no-bonding Power Foci (just costs your soul, folks). Give me
the Brotherhood any day.

Somebody mentioned a few day ago something about the invae (it may have
been on the plot-d board), and about how that is the proper name for the
insect spirits or something like that. Somehow it seems to be connected
to the horros, whatever they are. Anybody got the low-down on this?

You WHAT!!!!.

not my experience, though the GM was filling in the holes by
converting SR bugs over.

Ever seen something just stand in front of a Beastmasetr and shrug
off 'claw frenzy?' 'at a decent talent rank?', ok so they still fall
for sleep spells just as well as SR ones fall for manaball but
keeping the wizard concious long enough is much harder in ED than SR.

I think he meant that they are a crossover... They didn't appear (I think)
in ED until after they were in SR...

I doubt he meant that the bugs were easy... If tehy are easy in ED, then
ED is definately the game for powergamers...

I meant they were easy compared to the bugs in shadowrun, but then, as I
said, it's a while since I looked at them.....

I will only say this much. We've taken the nasty and terrifying concepts of
the Invae to the next several stages here.

The Invae (Bugs) have started looking around, and have -apparently- managed to
gain some kind of connection to a really good genetics operator/surgeon. They
are starting to literally "define the growth" of the "clones" (think
of baby
embryonics and advanced aging chemistry/bionetics) as the development occurs,
the investure of the spirit (Invae/Bug) begins as well.

I personally don't know what Mike is working up, as I've finally gotten him to
not tell me all of his ideas in advance (very hard to get "Surprise" awards
that way ;).

I do know that apparently the Invae (a Firefly group) managed to get a few
"survivable" hosts with really awesome willpower. One of them was Otaku...

Yes, we are sick.....

Yup ...

The Secret Hive went, out and found themselves some people who were pretty
good with Genetics, Human Biology, and other needed skills in a Cloning
laboratory, then they went to slow process (even slowing down the normal
investure stage) to get flesh-forms that would retain their learned skills at
the time, and then they spent a few years practicing and advancing their
skill.

And I am kind of glad, the look on your face when I brought the Invae into
that game's mess was something I will treasure for a while, the same goes for
everyone else too.

Yes, and I have even wondered what affect this would have on an Otaku or
Invae, heaven forbid, which one has control in the end, the shaman and Queen
(Mother ?) that investured the child or the Resonance ? Also, we called her
Omen.

Me, I'm betting on the resonance.

Just don't hurl in my general direction, okay ?
