Ya know, I'd pay good money to see FASA do a book with the "official" game
stats and backgrounds for the characters from the novels!

Granted, this would take away some of the "mystique" from the characters,
but it would certainly be a good read, and maybe even be a much improved
version of Prime Runners.

BTW Jak, if you do happen to have SR stats for Winger et al - why not be a
bud and post them to the list!?
I'm sure I'm not the only one who'd love to see such things.
And I realize you're a busy writer with deadlines (been there - done that)
so don't worry about cleaning it up for us beggars.

T$R did this a couple of years ago. Book called Hall of Heros. For each
character it had stats, pictures and about 1.5-3 pages of character
background, and a couple of gaming hooks to help the GM use the character
in an ongoing campaign as a NPC. it was actualy interesting reading and
it was fun to see how close my guesses were to the official stats. (and
boy some of those characters were munchy!)

I don't think they're planning on something like this, but I do like the
idea. I do think they're planning to publish products with some of the
trilogy characters, but I'm not sure about stats.

Here's part of what I wrote up when I was creating Winger and plotting out
Dead Air. It's not long, and the character and plot details changed somewhat
as the book was being written, but it's all I have time to post now. I can't
give you anymore anyhow, because FASA owns the character, not me. I don't
think posting this this will infringe on possible product sales in the
future, and technically all they "own" is the published character, not this
one in the developmental stages, but just in case they want to publish
complete stats on Winger, I've left some things out.

Here's what I wrote (and remember that this was never intended for public
consumption, and may not be well written)...

Jonathon Winger -- elf, chromed, all paid for by the UCAS military or by the
LA Sabers (later).
He is about 25 when the book begins, born in (2031) in northern CA before
the war with Tir Tairngire (in 2036) when he was 5 years old. Both of his
parents died in the war; he has hated TT ever since. He escaped to UCAS
with gypsies/deadhead types who caravaned across country selling drugs and
living from day to day. (the anti-elven sentiment was pretty fraggin' high
just then). He met Tamara while travelling with the gypsies; they used to
watch Dougan on the trid (Combat Biker was very popular among the
biking/transient community of the gypsies). When he decided to leave to go
into the military (he had grown to despise the backward life of the
gypsies), Tamara enlisted as well.
Jonathon is very large for an elf 2.1meters, 95kg, bulked up, must eat a
lot due to his suprathyroid gland. Jonny's got clean-line good looks, well
cut musculature, auburn hair cut into a long mane. His helmet says Wingman,
which is the handle he is known by.
He has a volatile temper, but mostly under control. Very quick thinking,
excellent rigger with flying vehicles and motorcycles, very good with cars
and panzer-like vehicles as well. Able to control several drones at once.
Jonathon likes to play in the real world, he loves flying especially. He
rarely enjoys simsense productions because he likes to be in control, but he
likes his link with Tamara; he's been wired in with her on a daily basis for
many, many years. He will sim to other's pov during games and combat only.
Jonathon's aspirations are to be as good at the game as Dougan Rose; he is
slowly learning, however, that while Dougan is good, his reputation and
popularity is not simply due to his excellent play. Dougan isn't really
like Jonathon thought when he was younger. In the middle of the story,
Jonathon decides that he won't do what Dougan does. He vows not to
prostitute himself for the sake of fame and image.
Carries a Predator II, later when people are trying to kill him.

Headware (all installed by the UCAS military); Essence 0.7
Vehicle Control Rig: 3 w/remote control operation (beta-customized) 3.00
Full-X Simrig w/transmitter and internal fade controls on RAS
(beta-customized) 1.6
Datajack; 3 or 4 (.2)
Other cybertech:
Smartlink; 2 (added for combat biker) (.5)
Bioware: (Body Index: 5.3)
Synthacardium; 2 (.3 b)
Muscle Augmentation; 4 .8/lvl=3.2
Trauma Damper (.4b)
Suprathyroid (1.4)

I also included Tamara's since she's tied in with who Jonathon is...

Tamara Ny
Tamara is an elven female about 25 years old. Born in 2031. She's very
attractive and charismatic, from a slightly asian background perhaps 1/6th
(dark almond eyes, raven hair, full lips, tan skin).
Her history with Jonathon. She grew up with the gypsies, travelled across
Cal Free, NAN, CAS and UCAS. She left with Jonathon when they were both 17,
then they got a SIN, joined the UCAS military. In the military, they
volunteered and qualified for a special test pilot experimental unit.
Here's where they travelled to Fort Lewis, meet Theo Rica and get wired with
the simrigs and the rigger. They train, they live in virtually continual
sim with each other. They become one person, almost. After nearly a year
of training, then flying regular jets, they get to test fly new drek coming
out of the Federated-Boeing production line, chiller rockets. A few years
of this, then the accident occurs.
The incident which caused them to be sent to prison and discharged: They
(Jonathon, Tamara, and Theodore Rica (who designed the hardware interface,
but couldn't fly the planes) were testing prototype jets for UCAS and
Federated Boeing (involving the simsense connections) when Tamara buzzed a
Tir Tairngire squadron. The elves fired on them, which Tamara didn't
expect. She outran the missle, but it retargeted on a civilian suborbital
just taking off from Portland. The TT government demanded their
imprisonment and permanent ground which UCAS was only too happy to grant.
Cyber & Bioware: Tamara has the same basic set-up as Jonathon minus
suprathyroid (1.4) plus Tailored Pheromones; 2 (.6)

Hope this helps...
