Okay, I keep expecting someone to say it, but no one has yet... don't
weapon foci glow? Aren't Jedi supposed to build (read artifice) their own
lightsabers?

It doesn't sound all that complicated or non-shadowrun dystopian to me to
have a cult of samurai physads who based their entire philosophy around old
movies.

No, weapon foci do *not* glow. You're thinking AD&D. Stop
that. <g> Otherwise, next you'll be asking how large an area a
weapon focus illuminates, and complaining that you can only move
12" / 120' feet indoors every minute...
Weapon foci do "glow" to astral sight and when seen on the
astral plane, but then, so do living beings.

Gomen ne,

I had never read one way or the other (or recalled doing so, at least) in
any of the cannon material. Perhaps I have been misled by those doing
cover art for many of the sourcebooks/adventures (A Killing Glare and
NAGTRL come to mind).

Hmm.... Since I GM, its always been a non-point to me (If the player
thinks the weapon should glow, it can, else it doesn't). In truth none of
my players have ever had the money for a weapon focus past CharGen and
didn't want to waste the money there on something that (2e, at least, could
have been grounded thru). So its really neve come up.

The idea is not out of the question, and, after getting from Mike M. one
likely explanation for the cover of SR3 Companion (the glowing arrow), then I
would say "yes, the option for glowing weapon foci is there." It is more a
matter of game "dramatics" or "descriptives" IMO.

As for the idea and "basis" that Jedi build their own lightsabre's, vs.
Adepts building their own weapon foci...personally, I would say sure, go for
it as long as they learn all the appropriate skills (and thus spend the
karma). But, as per the rules, this is not possible.

Well, that depends. If your Jedi are Adepts on the Path of the Magician, I
think they could enchant.
