As always I'd prefer by-the-book [albeit with lots of the 'optional rules'].
I'd be willing to allocate combat/magic/control pool dice BEFORE throwing if
I had a personal karma pool of [guessing] 8 or 9 dice. I really hate burning
good karma on butt saving when I could be using it to munchkinize my pc :) Terry

I agree the above, except we don't allow the burning of "Good Karma".
(This was a SR rules, But I don't think it's in SRII....House rules aside)
Most players really hate burning karma from their Pool, (I've only done it
once, Was hit by a Vampire....) But we only allow Ten rerolls per session,
so it does happen. Of course it's different when you have no Karma Pool
left, Every asked to Burn Team Karma? The group doesn't appreciate it..... :)

I have dealt with the Karma pool in a very polite and elegant way. I
use it as the Fate Points that used to be around in WHFRP. Only, the
more you wait interrupting the GM by screaming "KARMA!", the worse
the effect of the thing that happened. So, if you interrupt at the
start of a particularly dangerous sequence, the sequqnce is usually
canceled without effects by the "Indiana Jones Method", while if you
do so at the end, you usually suffersome ill effects a la "Tom &
Jerry" :)
SO Karma Pools tend to be stable at around 3-4 points...
Ah, and in case you wondered, i completely ignore team karma.

I like the way this is done in HOL -- at the start of every adventure the
GM (sorry, HM) secretly rolls a D6, which is the number of Grace Of God
Points available that adventure. Whenever a player wants to he can use
one and be saved from any danger he's in at the moment.
BUT: try to use a GOG point when all are gone and you "lose times ten" :)

So do I, but not by design :)
