Currently we plan to play every other week for about 7 hours. My adventures
are geared to be difficult and my players are very thankful for their karma
pools. I award karma more than once per adventure, with the "major" award
coming at least once a night. Also if players do something noteworthy, they
get a point or two. A typical nightly award is around 4 karma per player
with another 2-6 karma possible for especially good roleplaying. Yes, I
emphasize roleplaying where I can. :)

Granted, the awards are slightly high ... but we will be lucky if we get in 8
sessions a year, and players like getting karma when they can.

Characters growing overpowerful has never been a problem ... we generally
become bored with the game, even with these large karma awards, before this
sort of thing can set in. 'Course, I am a little nervous about that decker
who has an effective nine dice to roll with his firearms skill
(specialization plus bioware, and a smartlink too). He's pretty much a
deadshot. :) I think the street sam is jealous ... course that street sam
has smartlink, spurs, wired 3, and Damage Comp 6 ... so he's no pushover. :)

That shouldn't be a really big problem, tho. Deckers/Hackers tend to
make very effective snipers, but they don't have the all-around combat
ability that a real Samurai does. Converesely, it doesn't take much
for a Sammi to do double duty in the Matrix (specialized Computer 2/
Software 4/Matrix 6), but he won't survive head-on tangles with Red
level ][C.
