Subject: Killjoy-Black Hammer question
Date: Fri, 28 Jul 2000 08:03:57 EDT
Hi all,
Here's the question: is there a damage code for the Killjoy and Black
Hammer utilities? My guess would be that it fits with the host rating
you're in (i.e.: A Killjoy6 program in a red host does 6S Stun damage, while
a Black Hammer8 program does 8M damage in a green host).
Any explanations?

My gut reaction says that no, since it's a Decker driven program and not a
Mainframe/Host driven one, it should work the same as other Decker Programs
and should have a L/M/S/D damage code option...

However, since it doesn;t mention that anywhere, and VR2 is a nice big pile
of... Err... I'll behave. Anyways... Since it's VR2, and the way it's
written (aka, Badly), I'd say By the rules you are right. the damage code
is based off the hosts color... (ain;t it nice to have a big nasty program
that only works against other deckers that you can;t control the power of? :/)

Not so. As a decker-run utility, Killjoy and BlackHammer
programs operate just like the basic Attack utility. That is, they have a
force equal to their rating, and have a base damage code of M. If you
want to make the program meaner, you pay the cost (i.e the size and design
time) to increase the Killjoy or BlackHammer's rating just like you would
for Attack. I don't remember the modifiers off the top of my head, but I
do know that dropping the base damage to Light makes the program smaller,
whereas increasing the code to Serious or Deadly makes it pretty friggin'
huge.
All of this stuff is in the programming section. Bull can say all
he wants about VR2.0 being a load of crap, but the rules are all there.
Read those rules carefully, and you'll get all the information you need.
