Ok children, small story time... :]

At Origins Last week, one of the GMs for the TOurnament, Andy Frades (SR
PLaytester and really nice guy) for some reason or another proclaimed me
King Geek. He had thought he was king of the Gooks since he was going to a
game convention to run an RPG Tournament that He wrote, but something that
came up during our discussions the first night made him proclaim me King
Geek. I don;t really remember why the first time.

However, I got proclaimed King Geek a second time during the convention,
reaffirming my crown, I suppose. I found and bought a copy of SR2 in
Hardback :] It was only 15 bucks, so I felt this was a pretty good deal.
After all, my SR2 HB is pretty much just a bunch of loose pages in a hard
shell these days, though that shell is all nice and autographed up by
pretty much everyone from FASA and most of the 97 Gen Con goers and the 98
Origins goers. But, I currently have a very good condition SR1 Hardback
and a nice condition SR3 Hardback (Also with massive amounts of signatures
and artwork :)), and I wanted a Second Ed. book to go with it.

So, my question is this. Am I King Geek for this? :]

<grin>

Hey Rich, you need to get Andy on this list :]

Leave it to me to remind you then. It was because you colored in your photo
copies of the SR CCG play test decks so they would be the right color of
the actual cards.

No way. I know a lot of guys who would die to have such a fine hardback
collection. Just because you pursue something you love doesn't make you a
geek. Much less a King Geek. But I suppose the remark was said in humor
among friends, so more likely it's just good-natured ribbing. I mean, let's
face it, to six-pack guys who never miss a baseball or football game on
Sundays and were high school jocks, we are all geeks for playing an RPG and
subscribing to this list. Something like Gurth's translation of the
Chromebooks would be laughed at by these kinds of people, meanwhile they're
the coolest damn thing in my opinion, and I'd assume those of most of the
RNers on the server. So there's a difference between your friends calling
you a King Geek and your enemies doing so. And now since I know I've blown
this way out of proportion from the fluffy post it started out as, I'll lurk
back into the electrons.

This was partly a joke and partly to brag about finding a good copy of the
SR2 HB :]

But as a matter of reference... I played 11 years of Football, 8 years of
baseball, and 4 Years of Wrestling :] And I only missed 2 games after I
was in an auto accident :]

Of course, I was also in Art, Latin, Honors English, and Cooking because I
enjoyed those classes, and lettered in Drama :]

Plus I've been playing RPGs and reading Comics and Sci-Fi/Fantasy since I
was about 8, so...

Make of it what you will :]

Hmmm, perhaps stereotypes are just that. In my experience back in high
school (though not in college), the jocks ripped viciously into the RPGers.
I guess it takes all kinds.

Actually, no... I'm referring to Rich Tomasso, who is around here
somewhere, though he's fairly quiet most of the time :]

Back in high school, most of the sysadmins/RPGers (a lot of
overlap) studied martial arts. <shrug> Most of us didn't fit into the
other parts of our private school, and tended to end up doing these
three things.
We were pretty much left to ourselves in the computer lab, and
generally ignored rather than talked about behind our backs.

Yeah, it really sucks that I have a job that really has 8 hours of
work per day as opposed to 8 minutes.

(tho it does beat a 1-hour commute to 8 hours of sheer boredom).
