Quick question; does anyone know what Tir na nOg translates to? I know that
Tir means land (hence Tir Tangire; land of promise) but I can't find what
the na nOg means.

Thanks. Are there any other words that the two languages share? SR3 says
that Sperithiel has nothing to do with any other language.

And whilst I'm at it, does anyone know of any words in Sperithiel in genral,
this is what I've got so far;

ceneste: forasken (the elven tribe who left Salish-Shidhe council and formed
Tir Tangire were given this name.)
goronagee: non-elf, usually a derisive term in the same way as the Japanese
have the insult "you are not Japanese!"
lossel: one whose lover is like themselves; homosexual (this word is not in
any FASA product, but Steve Kenson uses it, and that's good enough for me).
nOg: young/youth.
sersakhan: friend.
sielle: thank you.
tangire: promise/potential.
tarislar: rememberance.
Tesetilaro: Son of the Dragon, title given to Talon by Silverblade in
"Ragnarock". How this word relates to Dragonkin I'm not sure.
tir: land (hence Tir Tangire; land of promise).

There is some controversy on this translation. It seems that a lot of the
language was translated by poets and romantics. A very likely translation of
Tir na nOg is 'Land of the Crafty' (that is, good at crafts, not Brer Fox
crafty or wicca crafty) because they were exporters of baskets and fine
metalwork and the like. There are also a few other translations that I can't
remember. It is important to remember that Tir NanOg was a real place,
Ireland. Also see one of the names for their people, Tuatha de Danaan or one
of those that I can't remember (don't think it was Tuatha now). Anyway, it
supposedly means 'Children of the Mists' but translates better as 'Bog
People'.
Of course, in Shadowrun the place is run by elves so of course the most
romantic translation applies.

I'm not sure how much closer this will get you or even how close I am myself
on this. (Let the record show, I HAVE been known to make mistakes...LOTS of
them! LoL! I'm probably the worst GM in the history of SR!) But anyway, I
believe Tir na nOg is the Irish equivalent of Heaven or Valhalla. Ironic
that half my heritage is Irish and I don't even bloody well know Irish
mysticism and history that well...but...alas. ::goes out and picks up a few
dozen books on Ireland and just hides himself in a broom closet for the next
20 years::

II think the post I sent stuffed up, so I'll go over it again. Tir NanOg was
and is Ireland.The problem is that a lot of the really old Celtic/Gaelic was
interpreted by incurable romantics. Tir NanOg more likely means 'Land of the
Crafty' (as in good at handicrafts) because they exported a lot of
metalwork, weaving etc. There are a couple of other likely interpretations
as well, but I can't remember them right now. The other one is I think
Tuatha de Danaan or one of those other people names, I cant remember which,
that is supposed to mean 'Children of the Mist' but can be translated into
'Bog People'.

LoL! Exactly...so the next time anybody doubts that whatever higher being
might be in charge up there DEFINITELY has a sense of humor... ; )~

Actually, blame it on the guy who was writing down names at Immigration
whenever the boat came in. It was originally Von Muick (the other and more
dominant half is German) but for some reason the poor shmoe just couldn't
spell that...
