I have to disagree with Firepower.
If you would be firing at a banshee with a assault cannon, you're damage
would be 18D against an total armor of 6+18 (body + armor ). Or to put in
another way ,it wouldn't even penetrate the first layer of armor.

while if you would be using a laser you would have a power of 15M against
an overall armor rating of 6+9 (body + half the armor). OK ,wrong example
,it still wouldn't penetrate the armor but at least your effective force
would be 0 instead of -6. Lasers do rule on the field of armor piercing
weapons.(not counting missiles that is)

this makes good sense-- thanx!!! I also agree with Erik that I
should just plain make some things kinda hard to find--- god forbid
that my runners should discove Plutonium--things are bad enough for
them.

You are a little off. When you are firing at said banshee, the assult
cannon(18d) would bounce off the armor(18 basic scout model). This
is because you are trying to hit the banshee, a shoot-through. But
since the assult cannon is explosive, trying to damage the armor will
be easier, since the armor ramains the same. The only time you add
body to armor is when the vehicle is resisting damage, and that is
body+1/2armor. The armor also reduces the power of the weapon by
its rating. The assult shell has no power left. THe laser, on the other
hand, is armor-piercing. Only 1/2 armor counts if it is a
shoot-through. 15m vs a 9, laser gets through with a 6m, vehicle
resistes with a 15. It may not do damage, but the damn thing
penetrated. Plus the armor will degrade by 1, making it easier next
time.

ACTUALLY.... Plutonium (almost weapon's grade) is produced by a lot of
old-style nuclear reactors... All the runner might have to to is go to
some 3rd world nation and make a raid on thier nuke facilities.... Or
perhaps a terrorist group does this and the runners have to put a stop to
it.... Hm. Just some ideas.

Actually, third world countries get light-water reactors, which
do not produce weapons grade anything. Such as the Canadian Alcator
series. There are only certain kinds of reactors that can produce
weapons grade uranium and plutonium, and we are quite familiar with their
operating characteristics.

Hi there. Case in point: India.

It was sent one of the Candu nuclear reactors, and extracted weapons grade
plutonium for it in the development of fission weapons. For that breach of coract, Canada
has stated that it is no longer responsible for the maintenance of these reactors, and now
they are falling apart, a hair's width away from a
meltdown.

A sorry state of affairs.

Just my thoughts,
