Hello,

When a Physical Adpet takes new powers, or improves the ones already
learned, does he need a source to learn them? A teacher?

What if the PC never finds the teacher with the power the player wanted his
Character to learn?

Interesting question that never crossed my mind. Well
as I understand it from the rules the powers come from
a combination of personal experience, inlightment (aka
something he saw made him think of a way to do
something else) and practice. The latest the character
does it in his free time (when he waits for the decker
to find some data or the mage to finish an astral
quest, etc). As with the lifestyle cost, those things
are already a part of the thing you don't have to
emulate like eating or going to the bathroom (unless
you want to of course).

Anyway you could use the skill training table and the
following formula:

power new cost in total power points X 2 (round down)the skill rating equivelant for the
training system
provided in the Companion.

e.g.

lets say he wants to buy improved reflexes 2.
Then 2 X 2 = 4. Treat this as a 4 rating skill.

But lets make it fairly easy because adepts allready
have too many difficulties build in their system.Hope
I helped a little.

Only for role-playing purposes. The rules allow them to just buy powers for
karma, but you could use a teacher or "ancient scroll" as an adventure hook
(netting some karma for the player), or as a subltle hint to the player what
power(s) you think they need down the road.

They could quite feasiably develope a new adept power on thier own as the
result of practice, meditation, reading about it, or just eating something
funny.

Metamagic abilities learned during initation, however, are completely
different...

The we've never had the problem as the two adepts we've had have been "dojo
trained" they have a teacher written into their background who acts in the
same way as a talismonger in effect, the teacher (both we've had have had
the same teacher, the Ineago Montoya effect played to the hilt) knew certain
powers which he was willing to teach and some he would teach in the right
circumstances, any the "student" wanted that weren't on the teachers list at
all they had to find a different teacher for (cue short sequence of solo or
group 'runs... HAHAHA HAA DANCE PUPPETS, DANCE!)

I would think this would be role-played from the
vantage point that the Physical Adept's powers come
from within themselves. If there IS a teacher there,
then the teacher can only guide and nudge along.

If there is no teacher to be found, then the time may
take considerably longer, but the PhysAd could still
accomplish this. They may accomplish this with
practicing their swordsmanship, etc.
