Mailing List Logs for ShadowRN

Okay, here's the dates for the list for those of you who have been
interested .. these dates are all based on list archives:

ShadowRN (First HEARN Log): First log is February, 1992.
ShadowRN (My first post): Fri, 22 Oct 1993 12:23:33 -0400
ShadowTK (First HEARN Log): First log is November, 1992.
ShadowTK (My first post): Tue, 19 Oct 1993 16:13:58
Lists start at iTRiBE: October 30, 1995

Incidentally, it looks like my _very_first_post_ to ShadowRN was a rant
about some off-topic stuff about US Politics. :-)

Looks like I'm right around the four-year mark on the lists. :-)

If someone wants to send me a list of first-posts that they are interested
in, I'll compile a list and post it to the list. Please send requests
to me privately and I'll just post the results.

And here I was thinking that you'd been here for years longer than I
was... Turns out it's only about 4 or 5 months. (Assuming weren't a
TOLMWAPPER [lurker] for 1 1/2 years, that is :)

What, is that a heavy hint you'd like us to throw an anniversary party for
you or something? :)

Well, Mike (as requested by me) e-mailed me a copy of my first ever, ever

I might post it up later, or I might wait 'till its second birthday, in

I didn't get as much response as I was suspecting, but here's
the dates for the ones that were intersted. Any other takers?
I want this list to get longer, dammit. :-)

I'll take you up on that. I first started on this list when I was in
Germany with the account of legion@******.darmstadt-emh2.army.mil or
something real close to that. That was some time ago, back on hearn.

Yeah, how about for some of our distinguished members like Fro,
Gurth, Bull and Dvixen. So what if they weren't the ones asking.

And for an added bonus here's the time that started my lurking

How would I look up my first post? Or do the archives not go that far
back....? Not that I have been on *that* long, I just don't know how far
back the archives go...

How many flames did I start willingly or otherwise? I seem to recall
a drift in some of them. We could enter it in the ShadowRN Trivia FAQ
along with Bull's random topics. B>]#

Well, to be honest I replied as well but we agreed not to let the list in
on the date of my first post :) Suffice to say I'd be second from the top
on this table...

Well, for all those new to the list here's my original post that
wasn't an attempt at trolling, honest. Sorry Gurth, I still feel the need
to defend myself. B>]#

So then I got defensive about it after finding my original source
and quickly got angry and defense and even well into being offensive in
my stance. There was also the flame drift over no marker for my .sig
which I still don't take seriously and of course the outright flame
attack on you Gurth drift over having Unofficial Shadowrun Guru in your
.sig without being 100% correct all the time. (I'm still sorry about
that). I think there was also a few rants about killfiling me as well.
There was probably a few other flames that I can't recall right now all
within the period of a few weeks(2-3 I think). Of course there was the "I
hate the Shadowrun Companion" rants a month afterwards which teetered on
another flame war (or did it cross into that?) that also made me oh so
loved.
While I'm mentioning the halls of shame (ok, so some of it I'm proud
of) I should also include as runner up to attacking Gurth (even though
this is probably far worse) was my personal vendetta on TinySkullHane.
That could have been handled a lot better (a Hell of a lot better
actually). The only good that came out of that (if one needs to find such
things) is the exposure that Bull was secretly the `Bot after all.

Here's another to add, as close as I could find record of anyhow. I've
been off the list for quite some time now, and only recently

I've never claimed (and never will claim) to be 100% right about anything,
no matter what Tinner may think :) There's a reason I tend to include lots
of "IIRC"s and "AFAIK"s in my posts...

Although, as you were quickly told by several listmembers, there _is_ a
reason for the USG "title" in my .sig (it's up on my web page for whoever
feels the need to find out, BTW :)

Hey, you soon became a lot easier to get along with, so I'd say there was
no real harm done...

BTW, are you sure about Dvixen or was she subscribed under another name
first? Also, I remember someone once posting a set of statistics about the
list (number of posts, etc.) a few years ago. Would it be possible to
generate something like that again?

While your at it, check on me- I was on about 2 years ago, posting as

Hey, what do you think it would say about me? :)

I just looked through an old mail folder, but I couldn't find the post I
was referring to, only some replies to it that I'd saved :/ Anyone wanting
it anyway should look in the logs for a message with "top ten posters" as
the subject, on or around 15 August 1995.

All I'm saying, though, is that it would be nice to see similar statistics
about the list, but more up-to-date.

Sure. That's a great idea! I whipped up a little perl script to
generate some basic statistics like that. The following is keyed
to an email address, so 'mark@******.net' is different than
'mark@****.itribe.net' for example .. instead of just the top
10, I will include the entire list for your amusement. This
is based on messages posted since October 10, 1996.

Sorry, I am... but I was still only about #19 or so, and that only if
someone else wasn't above me due to the same thing. :)

Do you have my first post date?

I was on at hearn.bitnet a couple of years ago, possibly under a different
domain, but still "t_little".

I've used a couple of different accounts over the past year, so my real
total is 1510... er... 1511:) which puts me right after Bull (who hasn't
been around here any longer than myself:) Not that it changes things
much. The last two addresses belong to Lady Jestyr and Tim Cooper, IIRC.
Correction: s457033@*******.gu.edu.au belongs to Bleach/Marty Gotthard.
Now, the question is, what does this say about us? ;)

I would laugh, but Bull's only got about 60 or so posts on myself, so
I'll just smile:)

How recent it this tally (I must have missed the first post during a

Sigh,,, Somehow, I didn;t doubt this... Add in a couple other mailing
addresses:

>bull_22@*******.com 14
>orkbull@**********.com 7
>chaos@*****.com>"<drekhead@***.com 1

I'm not really sure about that last one... But that brings me up to 1591
between 9/10/96 and 10/10/97. Hmmm... 13 months... 396 days...

I actually only average about 4 posts a day...

Of course, 3/4 of those are off topic or generally wierd, so...;]

That's still pretty cool to be number 3 (Well, sort of... It also says
something about me...)

PS: It would probably be more, but I think I've been off line or out of
town (For things like Gen Con) for about 8 or 9 weeks of that... <grin>

Speaking of which, is there anyone on there that is no longer on the list
at all (Possibly the Aussie addy)?

Someone that went to Griffith Uni. Probably Lady J.

Not bad I managed 5 e-mail address and 453 posts in under two years. Puts
me in 20th position if no body else is in the same boat.

The aussie addy, I've been told belongs to Marty (bleach) and he's
off the list for the time being due to time constraints (sp?) with
his job...

Nope, it's since October last year, according to Mark's post. That makes
7.8-and-something messages to this list a day from me...

No real surprises there, I think.

I believe this is Keith Henry, right? He's managed to get quite a large
number of posts, then, seeing that he hasn't been posting to the list for
very long...

Over which period is this anyway? Since listserv was installed, or over
the past year, or what?

> I know most of these addressses....who is s457033? One of you

Either Lady Jestyr or Martin Gotthard, I think. They're the only two from
that particular university who've posted enough to get into this top ten,
I think.

Nope. It really is about 8 posts a day. This only dates back
to October 10, 1996.

Since listserv was installed. I could easily run my script over
the entire archive to see how many have _ever_ been posted, it
would just take a little time for that to finish. :-)

Hrm. What the hell. Off I go! :-)

Well, I ran my little perl script over _all_ of the ShadowRN logs
from forever and here are the results. NOTE: I pruned this list
down to the top 500 lines because the file ended up being about
150k and I didn't want to send it to the whole list. If you are
interested in the entire file, send me a message asking for it,
and I'll pass it along to you. The results are not terribly
surprising. :-)

-Mark

PS: Wow, that's a lot of messages! :-)

Yup - due to work, Marty had to unsubscribe. He's on night shifts now,
so he might be back.

I still find it hard to believe he beat me by nearly ten places - when
he was on, he didn't used to post *that* much more than me, I thought,
and he's spent about 1/4 of the time on the list that I have.

Then again, thinking back, I do recall screensful of listed messages all
from "MARTIN E. GOTTHARD"... :)

Being bored, I cleaned this up a bit. Here is the top 25, and
other honorable mentions (anything over 400) with the addition of
alternate addresses as I could indentify them. Maybe someone could
help me fill in the ???. This is from memory, folks, so if I miss
anyone, sorry.

Is it a bad thing that I wound up in the top 10 all-time posters?

Especially considering how long I've been here (all 14 months of it:)

(actually, having taken a moment a checked, I've sent some 40 messages,
counting this one, since the 10th...)

I think I may have by the time the first message was posted, assuming

well those are the ones i could find 1687

Ouch 3rd have i been too busy! These are actually all the same
account, just the name has changed with reorganistaion here over the
2 2/3rd or so years i've been on the list. I will get over 1700 but
am going to have to sign off from here in a couple of weeks or so as
i have another job, i hope to be back of course but it might be a
while, still some time to go yet :)

I can guarantee that Gurth gets out (occasionally :) ) and could get

Finally Proof FASA listens :), actually given how busy he was even
when he had time to be here i'm amazed just how big Mike's total is.

Not my problem :), actually if you really must know read the list
logs, it is all there, only 98,000 odd messages to check :) i already
had it stored someplace before i met him, which leads to problem 2, i
need to survive EuroGencon 98 :).

Ah found the Carp supplies, i think the Carp mine is still under
Gurths stairs unless someone sat on it.

ah the wonders of OT posting.

There is one advantage if i end up with a private account rather than
this one, i might be able to have a web site, well theres already
stuff from me on the local web site actually but its all work related
and certainly a SR free zone! [and before anyone sends any runners

Didn't he mention something to someone once (how much more vague can a

Probably closer to 99,000 by now, what with all these OT list dates
messages and all... I know where to look, but then again, why should I? :)

I've got a magazine full of Specials stashed away down there somewhere,
too, just in case.

Yeah, it might be time to stop this nonsense once and for all. However,
since this is ShadowRN it might take some Dvixen (hey, another one with a
big secret!) intervention to actually do that...

He did say he planned to rejoin after Gen Con, but with deadlines and
problems with getting RIgger 2 and Cyberpirates printed, he was delayed...

I'll mail him and ask if he'll be back anytime soon...

Hey, how many posts did Steve Kenson have on the list? That's more proof

Also I was on the list as (Haloween Jack)SBC3KCB@**.AC.UK

I think he means how long this list has been in existance (although if
it's literally translated in Dutch, that last sentence doesn't make much
sense either...). The answer to that should be easy to find by looking at
the logs. AFAIK it's been running more or less continuously since early
1992, although a couple of times it went down for a few days.
