As is, we're still seeing about 5-7 posts when some problems crop up.

Alright, I can see where a weekly report would be too much
bookkeeping, without really solving the problem. The other suggestion
I was considering sounds a bit more drastic, but I really think it
would save bandwidth.
How about just sending the list a small note right after you privately
email the source of a problem, letting us know you're aware and
dealing with it? (Like the one you sent out about today's batch of
MIME posts) I know the idea is to take these problems off the list,
but I'd rather see one brief GridSec-sent note for each problem,
rather than 6 lenghty listmember sent notes about one out of every
three problems.
I know when I used to frequent certain USENET groups a long time ago,
and we had a setup similar to this. The short notes hardly added to
the group's traffic, and I think it would work here too.
