Regretably, "Bwana" does have a bit of a negative connotation, but I think
I'll ignore that, as well as the apparent trolling, simply because I have
an opinion ;)

Larry Elmore.

Hands down. Without a shadow of a doubt, Elmore is one of the best artists
in the fantasy genre to begin with, but his work with Shadowrun is
phenomenal. Laubensteins portraiture is excellent, mind you - but a bit,
almost, caricaturish, whereas Elmore's work tells a story unto
itself. Every major piece of his that I've seen stands alone, but also
stands strong beside whatever story it's emphasizing. He has a great sense
of scale, excellent use of colour, and the imagery, while not "fantastic",
is real and believable. A storyteller with a paintbrush, that's Larry Elmore.

I was fortunate enough to bump into him at Gen Con, signing posters and
lithos. Though I was mostly broke, I managed to scratch up a first-ed
cover poster and got him to sign it. Though it's only a cheap poster, it's
one of my prized artistic possessions.

That doesn't need a poll: Earl Geier is your man :)

Geier is definitely worse. I like some of the Larry McDougal (sp?)
illustrations, at least from those after he discovered he could use more
than just black and white.

I didn't want to offend no one with that :) .
"Bwana" just justified my poor English.

Easy for the greatest, Bergting was The Man.

I just re-read Aztlan Sourcebook to check on some
timestamp and locales, my god he was good.

Then you shouldn't have brought it up ;)

Not sure ... it's not hard to do yourself, though, if you have a fair
number of SR books from the past 15 years or so. Most artists worked on
multiple books, so you probably won't need access to absolutely all the
books in order to be able to list (nearly?) all of them.

Whereas I was saying Earl Geier was quite likely the worst illustrator
to be employed by FASA :)

I'm tend to dislike artwork by Tom Baxa worse than
that by Geier, although of the two Baxa is clearly
more imaginative.

cheers,

Jan Jaap

Whoever that chic was that did the race artwork for sr4 was definitely the
worst.
The dwarf with the wool pants was terrible and the troll chic were attrocious.

Indeed, those are bad. Still much better than anything "Boobies!"
Prescott ever produced, though. I'm *so* glad they got rid of him.

It's a stylish dwarf. Yes, he's a grime-covered rigger
for most of his daily life, but for this picture he
decided to make himself look pretty. :)

However, I do agree that the mainstay of the
text-bordered SR4 art could be presented more
favourably, especially in the equipment section.

Even though the idea of having an illustration next to
every description is excellent, a presentation wherein
the text refers to a full-page illo might be
preferrable if descriptions are concise.

I must be thinking of strangely appealing
science-textbooks.

cheers,

Jan Jaap
