There's a big difference between buying a weapon and carrying it around
with you all the time. I have absolutely no problem with players buying
LMGs, sniper rifles, assault cannons, missile launchers, or whatever. If
it's during character generation or after three years of play doesn't
matter to me either.

Just don't expect to take it with you everywhere you go. My usual way of
explaining this is saying something about a few dozen cops, each of
whom has a Firearms skill of 3 or 4, initiative 4+1D6 or so, and an Ares
Predator, and doing a bit of fuzzy maths with damages, successes and Body
ratings.

Because that is what *will* happen to anyone carrying heavy ordnance into
a civilized area. LS will shoot first and question your relatives later.
Doing the same thing in the Barrens (especially at night) will be a lot
safer cop-wise, but gangers may take an interest, which could be just as
unhealthy.

I'll agree with Mike here (for once :) It's annoying to read, and not
necessary at all if you quote the original text like almost everybody else
does.

Holy sh*t :)

Oh, and to actually speak about the topic. No, a character shouldn't walk
around with a huge gun all the time. That's just stupid and bad role
playing. A gm should punish the character for it. But they should be able
to have one in their cache of weapons at home for those times when it's
necessary to use it. Like wise, it's good to have a force 10 mana bolt to
throw around when you need to get your ass out of the fire. If you start
casting it at people on the street, you're going to get LS on you, for the
same reasons as for a PAC.

I thought the standard firearm for cops was now the Ruger Thunderbolt.
It's a lot scarier than a Predator.

It came in the Lonestar sourcebook. It's a heavy pistol that can only fire
burst fire. A simple action for each shot. 12(c) ammo. 12S damage.(this
includes the burst fire mods). No recoil for the first shot, +4 for the
second burst. This is all from my memory, so I can't remember the cost or
availability or anything. Sorry.

In 2054 LS started to hand out the Ruger to its employees, but the LS
Sourcebook states it would take some time to swap all weapons.
And when you see the Thunderbolt in action, you (nearly) instantly notice its
greatest problem: Ammo! With just 12 shots per clip, you have two to four
actions until you run dry... And that's a /stupid/ idea in a firefight,
as "my" cops had to notice (four nearly simultaneous 'clicks' mean trouble,
they learned, too :-)

Wouldn't they still have a smaller side-arm as well? They could also use a
few tactics to stop the simultaneous emptying of the clips. Couldn't they
get caseless or an extended clip or something?

NOW they learned to control who shoots when... one waits to cover the others
when they run dry... as I said... NOW :-)

Many years ago I used a M-1 Garand rifle in training, the M-1 uses a 8
round en-bloc clip, eight bangs and an extremly distictive ping. We had a trick
to insure that every ones rifle did not go ping at the same time (In Training it
is extremly embarassing, for real it could be fatal), half the squad ejected 4
rounds as we departed, the net result is that half the squad was reloading at a
time.

Smart move. When my old man was in the corp. he would clear his clip on
the 7th rnd to avoid the ping.
