Ya know, I was just thinking with all the attention given to Stongehenge,
I was wondering if anyone has given any thought and possibly pen to paper
(or fingers to keyboard) over other locations?

I was just thinking about the mysteries that might surround Easter Island.

Being somewhat ignorant about the place at the moment, I am not sure what
legends or myths surround it, but it seems like a likely candidate for
possession of mysterious powers.

Anywhere else out there?

There were approximately 5 other locations similar to Stonehenge, but none
of the others were as intact. I can't remember where they were, or the
exact number for that matter.

You mean the Island where they cut down all the trees to use to move the
giant Statues? See, you don't have to have advanced technology to mess
up your enviroment... :-)

Other places:

The pyrimids of Egypt
The pyrimids of South America (Aztec)
Bermuda Triangle
Old Indian Caves (well, maybe)
Indian (India) temples

Actually, most of the pyramids in Mesoamerica that people think of are
from the Mayans or Olmecs. And remember that technically the Azzies, Mayans
and all the rest lived in North America, not South. :-)

I was doing some research on old Mesoamerican religions and found some
interesting quotes on the end of the cycles of the Long Count, including
references to the "dawn of the earth." :-). I may even eventually get around to
summarizing some of the information; if nothing else it may help GMs
make more detailed Aztech baddies.

> Bermuda Triangle

This is far too much of an utterly falacious modern myth for it to be worth
much in SR, IMO. Yeah, I know, belief makes reality in the SR magical system
(witness Gator being used as an urban totem), but if it wasn't for the
idiocy of Berlitz and his massmarketing ploy, the Bermuda Triangle would
never have been noticed, as makes sense: no more planes or ships vanish
there than anywhere else across the world.

It makes sense that most religious places would have a nice, strong background
count to assist their believers and bedevil the infidels. With this in mind,
even the Sistine Chapel would probably give assistance to good Christians.
Maybe Jimmy Swaggert's toupee would serve the same function for a
magical fundamentalist.

drh, who may look up his old books on Easter Island tonight...

Do you mean the Incas of S America, and the Aztecs & Maya of
Central America?

How about Knossos - there's evidence of a happy peaceful hippy-like people
who dwelt there around 3000 BC before being wiped out by the more
aggressive progenitors of the Ancient Greeks.

Also, look through any book, whether academic or fictional, concerning ley
lines and such.

Or China. There were knight errant types there thousands of years ago, I
believe.

What about Atlantis (if there really was one)? Is there going to be an
Atlantean Foundation Sourcebook ever? (Anybody played the Indiana Jones and
the Fate of Atlantis computer game? What did you think?)
